  1. I just tested my water. At the spigot outside(I have a softener inside) I have somewhere around 7.6 on the pH scale.
  2. I have a marine land magna flow 360 canister filter. I redid my test tonight I must've done it wrong the other day. My ammonia is 0, nitrites 0, and nitrates 80-160. Also, I have a ph of like 8.2. So I just need to clean everything right? Cut down the bacteria... Also, pH is high Im guessing as I have well water. I battle a high ph in my hot tub all the time. What's the best chemical to lower pH? Thanks, Joey
  3. OK, so I'm out of practice. I need some help. I'm sure at times we've all been bad fish keepers, so I'd appreciate help instead of negative comments. My newest tank set up wasnt cycled at startup. At this point, my parameters are high In Amonia and low or no nitrites or nitrates. My tank is been running for a few months. No fish have died--aside from one snail. I started out using either a quick start or a safe start with bacteria, but obviously the tank never cycled. At this point, I realize I may lose fish, but how should I best proceed? Should I worry about adding bacteria from bottles, or should I just start doing water changes? I guess what I'm confused about, is that the fish have been there for months now and there is no bacteria. Does ammonia kill good bacteria off and prevent it from growing? I assume I just need to follow the cycling with fish instructions? Thanks, Joey
  4. Okay, but you guys didn't answer my question. I was asking about the tank filtration. Not about the goldfish. I already got an amazing deal on this tank. It's not going back. Even if I need to keep other things in it, it's what's I've got.
  5. Hey guys! It's been a while. Nursing school killed my goldfish game, but now I'm back in full swing and have my RN credentials to boot! Anyway, living in Montana now! Woot! So I bought a tank finally and plan to move some goldies in soon. I bought a 54 gallon aqueon corner tank and like a good fish keeper, I bought one of the biggest filters I could find. Ran into a problem... The lid won't close, thus the filter won't fit. Anyone have experience with this aquarium? Will I need to go to a canister filter? I want my fish to thrive, not just live. Anyway, I'm super excited, just not sure what to do and I've never had experience with a canister, so just kind of preferred hanging basket filters. Thanks for still being here guys!
  6. Is it normal for a goldfish to have hurt feelings if its tankmate dies or is moved?
  7. I've heard that after a while the levels will build even if you are changing water once/twice a week. When or should you change 100% and recycle your tanks? Once a year? twice?
  8. The column is more surface than my 20 gallon and is about the same size as my 29. It would be giving them more surface area. Also I am a filter and bubble freak. On my 29 gallon I have two filters. And I actually had to take the back pieces of plastic off my hood on the 20 so that a bigger filter would fit. Plus anything would be better than the setup I have 2 fancies in a 20galhex and 2 in a normal 29gal.
  9. Does anyone know anything about marineland cube style aquariums? How sturdy are they? Do they have cross braces? Would I be better off with a cube or column? If I get a cube there is going to be more gallon room If I get a column its going to be less gallonage and more horizontal swimming room. Im looking at the 93 cube possibly 60 or 70 for our floor's sake. If I go with a column then I want the 56 gal. Im just wondering what would be the best first, for my four goldies and second our floor and myself. If anyone has a cube/column reviews please. Thanks
  10. Yeah I didnt plan on getting another goldie anyways. I did have 5(my buddy Morris(the black moore) died from ick a couple of months ago.) I wouldnt worry too much about oxygen though. I have a higher powered air pump with two bubble wands. I have two filters on the back of my 29 which would be moved over to the new tank if they will both fit. If not I will still have two, but will have to buy another one. And I already figured that I would need a couple of extra bubble wands/stones.
  11. The reason I am looking at this tank is because it fits into the space that my 29 is sitting(I dont have anywhere else to put it and it solves my ovestock problem. The height may not be ideal for goldfish but with the limited space its the best for them. The only other option is to get rid of my goldfish(isnt going to happen) and risk them falling into the wrong hands and mistreated entirely.
  12. First off, I have an overstocked 20gallon hex tank. I have two fancies(calico fantail and a questionable ryukin/oranda with micro wen). And I also have a 29gallon tank that could be considered overstocked. Two fancies in there(A panda oranda and a ranchu- both Lemon heads) Im considering This Aquarium for my four fish. The new tank will probably cost me a little over $300 and I really dont want to have to fork over much more money. I need to know how much you guys think my aquariums are worth. I think I probably paid around $300 a piece for them. I will be selling them with the tank stand and light/hood. Neither of them have any damage and are in GREAT condition. The 20hex has a MDF stand and the 29 is made of pine. Another reason Im considering this tank is because it has a cross brace whereas my 29 does not. And when I fill my 29 I can see it bow out just a bit.(scares me). Im really excited about the new tank and I want to do whats best for my goldies. Thanks for your help.
  13. If I haven't killed the cycle I believe I have everything calmed down. I got the nitrates down to around ten again.
  14. Looks like the temperature has dropped to 78. I tested the water again. Still at 40 Looks like another water change is in store. Should I do another 50or75%?
  15. I put him in another tank I have he's nipping at some lettuce on a veggie clip right now. After I did the 50% change this morning it showed 40 and then I did another 25% and it still showed 40. The temperature has dropped to 78ish now. Should I do another change? This is a 29Gallon btw
  16. I didnt deeply clean the filter. I was kind of affraid of disturbing the cylce too much. I did gravel vac decently.

No, still eating and swimming fine I just added the new filter last night and changed one of the old pads in my old filter(It has two so bacteria will be fine) I opened the lid and put two fans blowing on the tank to cool it off just a bit ago I removed the black moore that was in there as I figured that would probably help I had two aponogeton plants in there and I figured it would be good to add some more plants so I added two more.
  18. Well. my mom has goldies out in her pond. Altogether we have about 16 golfish around here lol but yeah I did go a bit overboard I suppose lol
  19. I also plan to break up some Hikari Algae Wafers into the pellets because they gotta have some sort of plant stuffs...
  20. I sent Mr. Hopkins from Raingarden goldfish an e-mail... I said, "Mr Hopkins my fish were amazing when you sent them to me. Their colors were so bright. Well, now their colors are very dull and I think it may be because I'm not giving them the best food. If you are willing to disclose I'd love to know what food you were feeding them so that their colors might return. Thanks so much." Well, in return he sent me this advice. "Hi Joey, We use a blend of industrial fish foods plus a lot of home made food. Sort of hard to replicate. I suggest using one of the Hikari brand goldfish pellets supplemented with aquatic plants (for example Anacharis or duck weed) or leafy green vegetables from the refrigerator/freezer. Hikari makes a variety of pellets in a wide range of prices. Some have color enhancers, but they are all make with good quality ingredients. Thanks for inquiring. -steve" I just thought I'd share his advice and show you guys the food blend that I made. I will be getting some Hikari food shipped. My pets stores dont carry it but I bought these all from various places around town. I had the cichlid pellets left over from an old tank and I wanted to get rid of them(my dojos and sucker will eat them anyway).
  21. Does anyone know if this would be because of food or bad water or both?
  22. My Ranchu also went from this to this I hope this is not because of me
  23. This is what my fish use to look like I hope its not because of poor water conditions Compared to this my Fru-Fru look terrible...
