  1. Wow, I thought I read that prazi and salt work great together. ??? There are no torn fins that I can see yet.
  2. My new telescope is bottom sitting intermittently. He will come up for food (though he's not really good at seeing it so he never gets much) and swim around the tank but other times he will bottom sit in the back corners. He also floats vertically sometimes. Right now he's doing it and aiming for bubbles on the surface. Anyway, the tank has been running on all three filters (900gph) for over 24 hours now. I have 2 medium air-stones in the corners and another smaller one in the middle that I added when I went down a filter. But I'm keeping it in there for now. I did a water test yesterday and my params were good: 75 gallon tank ammonia - 0 - slight (expected being down a filter) nitrites - 0 nitrates - 5-10 temp - 76-78 (keeping it warmer during treatment) food - usually saki hikari and then fast one day then feed peas. but for the past few days they have been on Jungle AB Prime water conditioner. I have been keeping the tank at .3% salt for almost 2 weeks now. And I started dosing the tank with prazi-pro on Monday. I did a 25% water change today and have not tested the water yet. Should I change anything I'm doing? I don't want to lose any more fish
  3. I hooked it up immediately and it seems to be working fine. I have never worked with this type of filter before so I could use some pointers. I put in the big white sponge thing and I put in the white bio stuff in the mesh bag. But, I left out the carbon bag, is that ok? I know many of you don't use carbon and I just got done removing all my carbon 2 days ago on the day of the filter mishap that started all this. lol! Is that white-ish bio stuff available in pet stores so when it comes time to change it I can find some easily? What is that stuff called? It's like the chalky substance in little cylinder forms. The filter seems really basic so I hope I have it set up right. I got the one that puts out 300gph, so added to my other 400gph and 200gph filter I'm now back up to 900gph for my 75gal tank. Whew!
  4. I hope it gets here by Friday. I really need it and can't wait to get it installed!!!!
  5. Yeah I was wondering if you had to get stuff specially made for aquariums or if you could get creative. Do you do anything special with the quilt padding before putting it in the tank? How do you keep it rigid enough to stand up in the filters? The fliter floss I have now of course has black plastic backing with slits in it to allow water to pass thru. On my emperor 400 dual bio-wheel there are two slots on each side, 4 total, for filter media. One slot on each side is for the filter floss and the other slot on each side is for the plastic filter media container that you can fill with whatever you want. Oh, one more question... Is prazi-pro like salt in regards to adding more after water changes? If I remove 20 gallons of water then I add 60tsps of salt back in to match what I took out to keep the tank at .3%. Do I need to do that with prazi-too? If I take out 20gal then do I need to add one more tsp of prazi? Oh and right now my tank is only at 600gph because I'm down a filter. I ordered an AquaClear 300 yesterday so that should be here in a few days. Until then I might have to do frequent water changes though... that's why I need to know about the prazi and if I have to add more after each water change.
  6. Could it be you have a relative named Tony then, who works for Globalview Software?? LOL!
  7. LOL J-pond I can get some pics up soon, I hope. The tank is doing well so far, but it's only been about 20 hours since the filter crashed and I had to move the new fish into the main tank with the others. The new calico telescope is AMAZING!! I marvel at him every time he swims by. ANd he is so friendly. He comes right to the surface and I can practically pet him! He's easy to catch too:) What a love!
  8. I would love to know that too! Right now all my fish are on Jungle Anti-BACTERIAL food and I'm treating with prazi (because of the two new fish and because a couple of my other fish seemed like they were ill). Now I have to wonder if I should either switch to Jungle AP or just use it after I'm done with Jungle AB. Great question Tay:)
  9. Yes exactly, they are fabulous Well I just ordered it. I can't wait to get it! I hope it gets here fast... my tank needs that filter! 600gph is not going to cut it. Jeffery, I saw your name and thought, oh, wow, there is a guy that works for the company my husband works for who lives in Singapore and his name is Tony Teo. Then I saw YOU were in Singapore too! lol! Is Teo a common last name? Teo is also the nickname of my son, Mateo:)
  10. Like this? http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=3610
  11. Thank you Tay! I'll take them out now. One more question: Would this filter be ok for my tank? https://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3579+3597&pcatid=3597 It says for tanks up to 55gal. My tank is 75gal but this would not be the ONLY filter. It's 250gph and add that to my 400 and 200 gph and we are at 850gph.
  12. I swear you guys, I'm freaking CURSED!!!! Go read my 911 post. My freaking canister filter took a crap on me. Caused all sorts of issues! I have had to cancel my QT because I needed my filter back on the main tank. So now I'm just dousing the 75gal main tank with prazi and salt for everyone. UGH! I hope this works. I'm tired of problems
  13. Thank you! I found another emperor 400 dual bio-wheel on sale at Drs. Foster and Smith so I'm ordering that now. It is exactly the same as the other one I have on my tank now. ANd there is TONS of room for filter media and it's 100x better dealing with that than the stupid canister. For now though I had to give up the QT tank because I needed my other smaller bio-wheel back. UGH! So for the next few days I am only going to have 600gph filtration on my 75gal tank. So, I guess I will be doing daily water changes, water tests and will keep my ammonia chips in the one filter for now to keep ammonia down. Hopefully that will be sufficient for the next couple days. I'm just dousing my whole 75gal with .3% salt and prazi pro and I hope my two new fish will be ok! What a pain!!!
  14. I had to put this post in the 911 section because I'm desperate. My stupid pain in the a$$ Magnum Canister filter is not working. I HATE THIS FILTER! The problem is I desperately needs it's filtration! I only have my dual biowheel 400 going on the main tank right now because I borrowed my smaller biowheel 200 for the QT. Without the canister 350gph on the main tank I'm only at 400gph!!!!!! I have to order a new filter right now. Any suggestions? DO I need a canister or can I just order another dual biowheel 400. That will give me 800gph on the tank even without my little biowheel 200.
  15. Ok, the problem is after removing all my carbon my water gets full of particles and looks bad. I hate that. Will the extra sponge (or whatever) help with that? Is there any other way to keep my water clean without using carbon?
  16. I have carbon in some of my filters... do I need to remove that? Including the carbon in my blue flossy filter media cartridges when I'm treating with prazi?
  17. That is what I was thinking Tay... they were already sick and just had delayed reactions. And yes, the tap and tank pH match. Rich did tell me something interesting that I want to run by Koko's.. I told him how my API drops produce a higher pH in my tank at 8.0 and it was never that high before. He told me Prime will give false pH readings like that and my pH is probably lower at 7.4 - They tested my water yesterday and it was 7.4. Sound legit?
  18. I was a little confused at first two because of the title and then saw the pics and I said to myself, "That's not a telescope!" lol! I am sorry you had to rehome him! I know that can be really hard. If it makes you feel any better, I just bought my first calico telescope yesterday!!!!! His name is Rocket and he has a PERFECT butterfly tail! That is why I bought him. I wanted another telescope anyway and when I saw they had a calico one I JUMPED on it! Then I saw his butterfly tail and fell in love!
  19. Sulja and your tank are beautiful!! I like the tree trunk too:)
  20. So, hubs and I drove up to our favorite LFS yesterday. It's about 45 minutes north of us. But we really got a great feeling from the place and trust it. They also happen to have the best goldfish selection in the entire area that we have seen. My favorite part of the trip, besides picking out two new babies (more on that to come) was that in talking to Rich (one of the guys who works there) he said to little old me, "it's an HONOR talking to someone like you". How about that! I was telling him how I am putting the new fish in QT for 2 weeks and treating with salt and prazi and how I fast my other fish once a week and feed peas the next day and how I never feed them flakes, only the good stuff, etc. And he validated EVERYTHING!!!!! He never questioned any of my methods (learned mainly from KoKo's) or gave me a funny look. Rich has my full trust from now on Now, as for my two new fish, I got an AMAZING calico telescope (dragon eye by some) with a gorgeous and perfect butterfly tail! His name (courtesy of my youngest son) is Rocket. Once he's out of QT I will get a picture. One eye is noticeably smaller than the other but I think it's just a genetic defect and nothing to worry about, right? He's about 2 inches long... not big at all. The other fish is another small orange oranda also about 2 inches long. She has the potential to grow into a gorgeous girl like Millie was. Her name is Lucy. Again, once she is out of QT I will get pics. Sidenote: Batman suddenly died the other day. So I'm down to Ironman, Mac and Wingo. I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. My water quality is always fine. So there is something else in the water that is happening..... ugh. I'm NEVER saying I have happy healthy fish again because the minute I do a fish of mine dies. UGH! Anyway, I hope this prazi stuff works for the QT!!!
  21. **UPDATE** My remaining four fish are doing very well. Even the new guy, Mac. Mac still has constipation issues but he is on a good diet now so I'm not worried and I'm sure they will pass. The tank has been at .3% salt for about a week now. No prazi because I haven't bought any yet. I did a 50% water change yesterday and cleaned out the algae on the glass and my filter intakes. There is still enough on the rocks and in the filters themselves that I don't think I upset the beneficial bacteria. My tank is sparkling clean and the fish are well. So I'm happy. During the water change I added salt back in to keep it at .3% though. I'm giong to keep the tank salted for at least another week, if not longer. Today they get PEAS!!!
  22. I just tested the water and the params are great: Ammonia - 0 Nitrites - 0 Nitrates - btwn 5-10. The result was a bit ambiguous. Could have actually been 20 since the card shows 10 and 20 as being almost the exact same color. It was hard to tell. pH - 8.0 Temp - 74 So everything was good AND the tank already has a .3% level of salt. I added the last dose yesterday morning before we left town.
  23. I have never used Prazi. I know there is a difference between Prazyi and PraziPro just from reading posts on here. Which is better? Anyway, I am starting to think back and I'm wondering if the algae bloom could have made my fish sick. Did they get sick from eating it? Did they get sick after I brushed the insides of the tank to remove algae from the glass and maybe it started floating around the tank? The algae has subsided and in some parts it does look like it turned green from brown, so that's good, right? Just this morning Mac's face looked wrinkled. For some reason, I can tell when my black moors aren't doing well because their black skin always gets wrinkled and looks dry or just unhealthy. But now, a few hours later Mac looks fine again. His dorsal fin was a bit torn when I got him so hopefully it will heal but other than that he looks ok now. I hope that means he will be on the mend.
  24. Thank you Helen and Kateana. Your support means a lot to me. I am thinking it was a combination of my rushing the QT process and the filter mishap. But I'm just guessing there. And I still believe it's because I jinxed myself with such a happy post about the 5 healthy fish 2 weeks ago. Stupid me. So, now my job is to make sure Batman, Wingo, Ironman and Mac stay healthy and alive. No more new fish for awhile until I can afford a RG or Goldfishconnection fish I guess. Though, there is another aquarium store I trust that I will buy from in the near future if we manage to get up that direction. It's about 45 minutes away.
  25. As you know Snotrod became ill very quickly. Rusty then fell ill immediately after and in looking back he was showing the same signs as Snotrod was. They both died yesterday, along with Clyde, my brand new fish, suddenly. Losing 3 fish in one day is torture. But losing two of your favorite fish in one day makes it even worse. Snotrod was the fish who survived it all! He was such a trooper! He was beautiful and my husband's favorite! Rusty (in my avatar pic) was just awesome and had such a laid back personality. He was a great little telescope. Clyde was brand new and I hadn't grown attached yet but he was going to be such an awesome fish. Now I will admit I rushed the QT process when I brought Mac and Clyde home last week. They both went into QT into .3% salt (gradually of course). They were doing great and eating and showed no signs of any stress. They had been in the dark QT tank for 4 or 5 days and I grew impatient. Rookie move I know. So since they were looking so good I thought I would move them into the main tank. Immediately, and I mean IMMEDIATELY as in within 6 hours Rusty started bottom sitting. But he was a laid back fish so I thought, well, he does that sometimes and he will be ok. He has done it before and never got sick. But this time was different I guess. Then Snotrod started to get ill and just floated listless in the tank for awhile. But I was denial and was trying to justify my rushing of the QT process by thinking that I was just seeing the new fish get acclimated and the old fish were getting used to the new ones. Rusty and Snotrod declined and went so fast that I barely had time to even try to save them (it's also been a very busy week for me so I couldn't give all my attention to them like they needed me to ) Clyde is a mystery to me, as to why he died. So last night I was angry... very very very angry. I lost two of the best fish ever and lost 3 total in ONE day. Clyde was set to be an awesome oranda too And I loved his name. Ugh. Anyway, I felt the pangs of wanting to give up or switch to saltwater or something. I have also sworn off EVER buying fish from my local Pet$mart again. Though, Mac is doing ok right now (the other new one from last week) but I'm not expecting things to go easy with him either. He and Clyde both had LONG LONG white stringy poop over this last week and I knew they were getting adjusted to their new diet. They all got fasted yesterday and got peas today. Though Clyde, Snotrod and Rusty died before they got the chance to eat their vegetables . (I do this once a week with all the fish though... fast one day, peas the next. ALL of the fish were doing really well on that... until Mac and Clyde go introduced) This morning, after getting up and still feeling angry I walked over to check my tank and make sure my remaining fish were ok. Only 4 left. That is when I noticed Mac and Ironman yawning a few times. I can't remember what that means but I know that once in awhile it's ok. But seeing them both do it a couple times has me concerned. Also, I noticed that no water was being returned to the tank from my canister filter. So I opened the cabinet and looked underneath and it had stopped working!!!! I panicked and grabbed the filter and it was HOT! I mean HOT! The water inside was not moving and it was about 110 degrees hot. I'm not kidding. I think the motor from the filter that was still running coupled with no water movement made it heat up! I quickly shut it off and took it apart and cleaned everything. When I opened the canister filter the stench was gross from the heat of the water and whatever mold or bacteria that had grown in there. I have no idea when the filter stopped working. It could have been days, it could have been hours. I honestly don't have a clue when it stopped. But I will say my last water params a few days ago showed nothing wrong. All params were in perfect range. I remember taking my small bio-wheel out for the QT a couple of times and seeing a slight ammonia jump in the main tank from the lack of filtration (even though it was still 10x filtration remaining). So, if my canister filter had been off for more than a day or two I'm thinking I would have seen an ammonia spike or something, right? Truthfully though, I hadn't tested in the last 2 days so maybe there was a spike yesterday or Friday. Either way, since it stopped working is there a way that could have made my fish sick and die so fast? I don't know how that's possible if no water was being returned to the tank. Or maybe there was a very small amount being returned and I just couldn't tell?? Any ideas? Despite this GIANT setback (that I totally and completely blame on my post about having 5 perfect and happy fish a couple weeks ago.... because I'm superstitious and know how easily I jinx myself) I'm still moving forward and won't give up. But this one has hit me HARD.
