  1. i use dried bloodworms for my bettas and tropical tank.. no issues here :S with the exception with one fish that got greedy and faced the consequences. XD aside from that. the dried stuff was never an issue, less of a chance of getting parasites too.
  2. great looking goldie congrats and i like the name
  3. both for sure, i see no reason why not. there will be no harmed done. besides, the media in the old filter is already cycled and hopefully filled with wonderful good bacteria!
  4. what would be the difference out of the original and this.
  5. seen it many times in tanks with fish, small fish, but aside from size, i have never heard anything bad, if anything, seal it if its hollow just to make sure shtufff doesnt get in there and stay in there
  6. yup any media that has that good (but not so attractive looking) bacteria should be going in the new tank. not literally in the tank of course, but in the filter. anyways, do that, and transfer some or all if you can, of the 29gallons of water that you already have, which shall help speed things up a bit. better for the fish too as its not a 100 percent water change. i did this a few months back and had no issues. if you are getting a filter, and havent gotten one, aquaclear has good power filters, so does tetra (tetra whisper ex70 for instance) umm.. marineland biowheel, the 280 i believe its called, even getting a 400 would be fine. but if you want to get better filtration , id get a canister, eheim 2213 or fluval. not to sure whats the model of fluval, but those are the two best brands it seems. canisters will have less GPH though then power filters, though they will cotnain A LOT more filtration media then a power filter, so .. i dunno, if you were to do x10 filtration as many recommend for goldfish.. that may get really expensive.
  7. maybe you can try this? http://www.bigalsonline.ca/Fish_Foods-Feeding-Equipment_Feeding-Tools_Feeding-Dish_8150785_102.html?tc=default maybe the fact that he visually sees a feeding station, he might always be distracted
  8. i use this http://www.bigalsonline.ca/Fish_Additives_Water-Conditioners_Multi-Purpose-Water-Conditioner_9164033_102.html?tc=fish its my LFS version nor well their product. works great, and its 5 bucks less for the same amount , which is 16 oz for like 12 bucks instead of 18 or so. works great, no complaints, as worked well for me, and lasts for quite some time. though i would agree with the other poster, koko users love prime XD
  9. hey thats cool. i havent hand fed my tropical tank but they definitely know when its feeding time. as for your boy bugging the girls during feeding, id say best thing is train him to eat on the other side of the tank. i used to do that with my betta, he would eat on one side while the other fish would eat on the other side.
  10. hey welcome! glad you joined! i love the back substrate
  11. holy bananas! they look like giant catfish/goldfish with giant mouths.. scary but so cool! nice post !
  12. its the priming that irritates me. I prime it hard and i keep hitting my knuckles against the hard tube screws. and it hurts really badly. Once I started bleeding cause I hit it soo hard. It takes 1hour to start up. :/ i agree with the other posts, something "fishy" is happening here. it wouldnt make sense for you to prime it that long. where the propeller is, is there any debris touching it or maybe a plastic cover or lock? my eheim has a lock on the propeller. you unlock obviously during use. thats odd though. id call up customer service if we cant find out whats going wrong
  13. my friend has the 404, discontinued as they took out the 405, but i heard priming was easy. and well interesting, you just turn some stick apparently, that primes it. you sure your canister is full of water and running? as for the others who are getting sscared of fluval, i wouldnt say go rena. if anything. go eheim! i got one a few weeks ago and i LOVE IT! when i first starteed it i had to disconnected the quick connect valve and suck on it just to get the water going. after that, i have never needed to do anything else. everytime i do a water change, i turn off the eheim, (2213) and then when i start her up again, i just plug it in and bam. it starts to run again. :S they have priming equipment you can use except you have to BUY IT ! so i was like no thank you, ill just suck on the tube like it said, then gravity does the rest.
  14. haha seductive indeed the orange face with the black eyes. ... O_o ! very beautiful ranchu. id say its in the top 5 of the hottest ones hahah
  15. D: ! this looks really really nice! best one i have seen yet! so how does it look like now ??!?! as for summer coming back. im sooo down for that.
  16. wow thats odd.. :S sucks how it killed your fish. never heard of this miss labelled "black algae" though its good to know of it now. thanks for the post !
  17. and what about to feed my regular fish AND shrimp. i heard shrimp would eat the brine shrimp. or are brine shrimp TOOO small. i want something thats live so that i can feed all my fish and my bottom feeders i.e. banjo cat or red claw shrimp to be more accurate. as my loaches and what not do fine.
  18. ohh yess i do have one! and i assume when you do use the dropper you will obviously still be pulling out salt water, and with the little amount of salt there is against the ratio of that to my 55 gallon freshwater tank, lets say i finally extracted as much as i could in a cup, then pour it in the tank, my tank shall be fine?? i struggled pretty bad wording that for some reason :S but i hope you understood
  19. just read that article.. and well im dumb.. XD when you think about it, everything living that moves and such (animals, insectsmamals etc) i.e. from worms. to fish, to monkeys to people, all have brains.they also eat, hunt and do varies things to hunt. which if you think about it do require emotions and such id assume. and if you toss in nerves/feelings, then most likely they shall feel something. if anything the question should be if plants have feelings?
  20. wow she grew a lot! for a fish that was in a 10-20 gal. someone did a good job at taking care of her.. !!! good stuff !
  21. http://www.bigalsonline.ca/Fish_Foods-Feeding-Equipment_Brine-Shrimp-Eggs-Hatcheries_HatchFeed-Shrimp-Hatchery_8034049_102.html?tc=fish would you say this is really worth it? read what it does, but to fork out 30 plus dollars for that? i dunno. even this one http://www.bigalsonline.ca/Fish_Foods-Feeding-Equipment_Brine-Shrimp-Eggs-Hatcheries_Shrimpery_8555521_102.html?tc=fish is a bit on the expensive side. how do you guys hatch yours? i have tried just getting the pack tossing it in a 2 liter.. and when they hatched, it was next to impossible to get em out D:
  22. i guess to an extent. i assume they could possibly recognize dirty water.. seeing how they are swimming in it. but if its clean its fine. i guess when you start recognizing a fishes feeding habit, i.e. every time i open my hood i have 20 plus tropical fish racing up near the RIGHT hood for hood. while the bettas have the left one. i guess that could be feelings as they do get excited. aside from that, from their physical surroundings i doubt it. unless they have certain spots where they like to hide or relax.
  23. for christmas i recently got this http://www.bigalsonline.com/Fish_Filters_Canister-Filters_Classic-Series-Canister-Filters.html?tc=fish treats up to 65 gallons i got the 2213 for my 55 gallon and i love it! i have this running and a ex70 power filter. they both do great as a combo. i got mine boxing day, 100 dollars Canadian. american cost less as you can see. if you want to fork out 100 bucks, then you can get the 2215 (click the drop down menu and select it) the 2215 treats up to 95 gallons i believe. love it though, i would recommend it, i would get it soon for sure as the sale is still on. it might end today though D: not too sure, but even then regular price is still pretty good. its extremely quiet, and the spray bar is really cool. this is my first canister, i have done quite a bit of research with canisters, and i must say i am very pleased with it. i have heard people having these eheim classic canisters running for over 15 years and still running strong. you just cant go wrong as for your cycle. its odd how it has taken soo long! you might want to consider starting over?
