  1. They all seem to pick on each other so I assumed that is why they have frayed fins, but because I have one sitting on the bottom and heavy breathing I think it is something more. The water conditions have been stable for some time now, like a year, so I can't imagine it has anything to do with water conditions. I don't have any other container to put the fish or frogs in and I'm leaving for a week long vacation soon and if I did move the frogs to another bowl or tank I wouldn't feel comfortable leaving them without daily water changes.

One guppy has very frayed fins and almost see though fins. There is a blood streak on his body now and a little black thing on his dorsal fin. He is bottom sitting and breathing heavily now. He doesn't have much time left. I want to add salt to the tank but I have two african dwarf frogs in the tank. Can I add melafix? If I remember correctly I can't really add anything to the tank with the frogs. I did a 50% water change, what else should I do??
  3. Jed Kim can you answer the list of questions at the top of the page. It really helps everyone get a better idea on what is going on with your fish. Hope someone can help soon.
  4. That's what I told my mother in law but she decided to just throw them in. I hope they will be okay. Someday I need to get all the gravel out and put some river rock on the bottom of my tank. Maybe this summer. Thanks for your help guys!
  5. My mother in law bought this River Rock for her goldfish tank because they were getting gravel stuck in their mouth. As far as I can tell it's just naturally polished river rock from Wisconsin. She wants me to buy this for my tank but I can't figure out if it will be safe in aquariums. Has anyone used this??
  6. Wow what a crazy story. He is definitely a goldfish. The breeders box was a great idea. Keep little Lucky safe!
  7. I'm so sorry Sakura... I wish I could help you in some way. I've been thinking about you and Buttons and I can't believe you are going through this now. I wish I could give you a HUGE hug. I hope someone comes on here soon.
  8. I would think that the frogs would be too big for the goldfish to eat, although knowing goldfish I wouldn't put it past them. I have my ADF with guppies and they seem to all get along pretty well. They are a lot of fun but a TON of work with feeding.
  9. I've noticed that most frozen peas have salt added. Now I buy a bag (store brand) that says Salt-free Green peas. My salt free peas has 0 sodium, so I would think that your peas has salt if it has sodium.
  10. i was thinking the same thing!!! Where are the mods to help you?? Did they all go on vacation or get sick at the same time again??
  11. I thought crushed coral brought up the PH which of course you don't want to do with your PH being as high as it is. As far as I know there are only a few things that bring down the Ph, like driftwood. I hope you get things figured out soon. Your fish are gorgeous!! Good luck.
  12. I'm not a mod or a helper but maybe it could be gill flukes. Have you treated with prazi??? Have you tested the water? I hope a mod or helper comes on here to help you soon. Hang in there!!!!
  13. He looks like my Rubberlip. Very cute. As for your other lost pleco check your filter. I have seen mine try to swim up the filter stream but never quite making it but getting close.
  14. I tried to find Hikari-that was my first choice but couldn't find it at my Pets-mart. I was thinking about ordering it but didn't want to waste money on shipping if it was going to get her floaty also. Ranchu it would be great if you could mail me a small sample to try!! I would be so grateful!! If it works than I could order some more online. I'll send you my address and I can send you back a couple of bucks if you like. Also I guess I have a whole bag of Pro-gold I don't need anymore. Maybe I should list it under the free spot in the forum for someone to try it. Thanks again for all your help!
  15. So I tried flakes today...I KNOW I KNOW flakes are a no no!!! I thought maybe the fish would do better on flakes since she once was on flakes and was fine. Sure enough she seems much better today than when she was on ProGold! I haven't seen her gulping air and is not sticking herself in the corner on the top of the tank. She is even able to go down. Of course I'm soaking the flakes and if she starts showing signs of floaty-ness again I'll switch to the other sinking pellet I also bought today.
  16. Thanks Trinket!! Your the best!
  17. Never tried any gel food. I was on flakes at first and didn't have a problem with this fish on flakes. I'll try switching to another sinking pellet. The fish just did a huge poop and is swimming normal again.
  18. Oh sorry trinket!! I forgot to do the list of questions! [*]Test Results for the Following: [*]Ammonia Level? 0 [*]Nitrite Level? 0 [*]Nitrate level? 5 [*]Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? 8.0 [*]Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? 7.6 [*]Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? api drops [*]Water temperature? 69-70 [*]Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 55gallons 5 months [*]What is the name and size of the filter(s)? Emperor 400 and Penguin 150 [*]How often do you change the water and how much? Once a week 50% [*]How many fish in the tank and their size? 4 fancies about 3" and rubbernose about 1" [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime [*]What do you feed your fish and how often? progold, salad supreme, peas and Spirulnia Flakes [*]Any new fish added to the tank? no [*]Any medications added to the tank? no [*]Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? no [*]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? FLOAT FLOAT FLOAT but only one of them does this Like I said fasting seemed to make everything better for that one day. I didn't boil the peas but thawed them in warm dechlorinated water, de-skinned them and mashed them.
  19. So is it normal that peas make a goldfish float?? I fasted my fish yesterday and all day she was swimming just great after floating for weeks straight. I was shocked to see her swim so well all day. So I didn't think some peas couldn't hurt today but now she is floating and stuck herself in the corner again. I'm confused...I thought peas help floating!!
  20. Thank you everyone. I thought for sure you guys would chew me at about how selfish I am being. I will give it one last shot and get the gravel out. Do you guys think I should do river rock or just nothing? I really don't like bare bottoms.. but if it will help situations than maybe I'll have to learn to love the bare bottom. I did my 50-60% water change last night and pulled out two huge cups of gravel and there was a ton of crap stuck in the gravel even though I just did a great vacuum last week. I guess it's impossible to get everything with that much gravel. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has thought about giving up. I look at people who have had bigger issues with their fish and tanks (like Mrs. Mohr) and think how does she keep going? She must really have a passion for fish that I just don't, then I start thinking that if I don't have that passion for my fish should I even have them?? So I'll get all the gravel out and go from there. And if I do give up I would hope someone from KoKo's would want my setup because I refuse to sell my fish to someone who knows nothing about goldfish.
  21. Thanks Edith. I keep hoping it will be nice to just watch and enjoy my fish like it use to be. Right now I look over and my ryukin is piping at the top of the tank. I hope things change soon.
  22. It does look like a Physa. It's disappeared again so next time I see it I'll try to grab it. It looks really delicate so I would be afraid to crush it. Will the goldfish eat them? or even the rubbernose pleco?
  23. Snail picture. I found it when cleaning the tank tonight.
  24. Nope I'm a boring old house wife so I have no use for stockings...well not ones I would like to cut up I'll grab some small tera cotta tomorrow. Still very disheartened. BTW I found a little snail with a shell and another little one with a developing shell. Are you sure that those things are worms??? Kinda weird they all came around the same time.
  25. Ok Lupin.. I'll start removing the gravel tonight since tonight is my water change. I don't have any nylon at the moment so I'll just take out a couple of cups of gravel tonight. I'll hit Target tomorrow and get some nylons and pots...any preference for the pots?
