  1. Since i last posted here my 55 gallon has turned green. And i do mean GREEN. I am not enjoying it one bit. But i think my fish are. So i am leaving it until i can stand it no longer. I actually even bought a jumbo bottle of prazi to help with the clean up process when the time comes.

I had wondered before if i had green water or not. No question about it now.

Suki. Always curious to what is going on.

Potter. He isn't enjoying the green as much as everyone else. But i am hoping he will with some time.

Mooshu. She is definitely hoping for food.

And Luna. I can see her growing everyday. She is the reason the water is staying green.

  2. Thank you. I feel better. I was just fixing to whine about the redness some more. Lol. I will let it go and concentrate on the positive. But i have one more question. Could it be salt sensitivity. It looks the slightest bit redder today and the water is perfect. I'm wondering now about the salt.

  3. Steph, I know this is your D&D thread about Kimono's ich, but I just have to say:

DANG. That is one GORGEOUS fish!

Lol. :D Thank you so much. I REALLY like this little fish. And if i can ever cure him of being a big chicken i will LOVE this fish. It is a pleasure to watch and i really hope i can keep him alive to reach his full potential. I think he will be a sight to see.

Give it 3 weeks sustained good water as you are. Redness takes longer than splits and scales ime.

The ich salt will help. She is a beauty :heart

Thank you. I am actually relieved to hear that redness takes a while. At least i am not behind schedule. And thank you so much for the help. :heart

  4. Thank you. The spots are already looking better. I'm starting to wonder if they were there at all but my hubby saw them too so i know they were. I see one or two more. But he has weeks of salt left to go anyway so all should be fine. But what about blood still showing in his fins. That showed up after my ammonia spike and we have had about 4 or 5 days of perfect water and it still looks red.

  5. Well as much of a pain as this green water is. The benefits are undeniable. It honestly seems that Luna is getting larger before our eyes. I am not going to show pics yet because the before and after pics i believe are going to be amazing. And yes the water has turned bright green. And I am having to change some out every 4 days just to be able to see the fish. Just letting you know i am still suffering through for the benefit. Of my babies.Lol.

  6. Thank you guys. :heart:heart:heart And yes he is eating great. But i can tell ich itches. He swims really fast and dives sideways trying to scratch though. I will start twice daily water changes tomorrow. Whats the life cycle like of ich? How long does it usually take for it to start dieing off?

  8. Well do to my carelessness. We have a case of ich. General tension in my house and my fish is suffering because of it. The story goes Kimono is still in quarantine. I have been taking everything very slowly since i got him. I left the salt at .1 trying to give my cycle a chance to really kick in before i upped it to .3. So he stayed at .1 For about a week. The first several days everything was great. Readings were perfect he was doing great and salt at .1. Then......i skipped a 2 days of testing. Out of the blue ammonia at 1. Totally my fault. I was too confident in that cycle holding.

So where i am now. 3 days ago i check and find ammonia. And blood in fins. I do a major water change and up the salt to .2. Another water change the next day. And everyday since. The ick started last night. Another major water change today and upped the salt to .3. And temp to 80.

So just to clarify this. Water changes everyday. Temp 80. And salt at .3.

By the way I'm crying. :cry1 I just lost Sushi and this stuff is scaring the crap out of me. Help me.

  9. You have beautiful fish. I especially love the Ranchu. :heart And that last tank shot is gorgeous! I am very curious about what plants you have in there.

    Plants -

the Large yellowy green leaves are actually Pothos, or Devil's Ivy. I have a big potted plant next to/ontop of the tank, and it started growing into and underneath the water and growing roots. One day I cut it and just let it grow submerged. I've since tidied it up and movied it around, and it's thriving fully submerged, and nothing eats it.

There's some marimo balls that ended up flat, and they're growing across the wood at the back.

The taller plants are Cabomba I think. Brilliant for goldfish as nothing seems to eat them, and grow so quick! I keep pulling the upper half off and replanting it.

Pothos! That's what i thought! Yea! I'm going to try it too. I have a potted one myself that grows very well but i am just having no luck with regular aquarium plants. So i am going to give it a go. Thanks! :D

  10. Thank you for all the info. I guess i am going to try and leave it for a while for the fishes benefit. And just do my regular weekly water changes to dilute it a bit. And buy a larger bottle of Prazi. I think i am going to need it. Lol.

  11. Thank you. I'm not loving it myself. I like the crystal clear look. I only have 108 watt on it now and it is on about 12 hours. Maybe i am over feeding. I think tomorrow i may scrub it all down and do a 90 percent water change.

  12. Okay i have decided it was a stupid question IF i have green water. Because i do. And it doesn't look nice at all. It gets worse everyday and i just changes the water friday i think. I know they benefit from it so should i leave it a while? But i want to know what caused it. Is it because i started leaving the algae alone on the back of the tank to grow? My new light i got for Christmas?

  13. I think i have green water. My parameters s are perfect. 0,0 and 10. But my water is getting cloudier every day. I even took off 2 of my smaller filters yesterday. And totally rinsed them out in a bucket of treated water. Still cloudy. I just can't tell if it is green or cloudy. I will try to post pics. What causes green ? If i looked at it in a white cup would it look green? I know stupid question. But i am trying to decide if it is green or gunky. All info on green water would help me.
