  1. Ah if only it was school! I'm currently working two jobs trying to make ends meet as my dad has been seriously ill unfortunately Plus dealing with my own health issues too! Hopefully when I become a student again next year I will have more time to spend online Well, Kimi has continued to look his good old self (the only change I noticed after stopping the meds was him seeming disappointed about not getting several meals a day anymore ), he went home yesterday! Of course we are all keeping a super close eye on things, but so far so good - just like he'd never been away!
  2. Yay! Thankyou so much for helping me (and kimi!), I know I'm not around much but I really appreciate it. You have all been very supportive and Alex and Becs especially! How does this sound - I stop the meds today, and keep an eye on him for another few days before thinking about moving him back? Just to be on the safe side!
  3. His scales have looked good for about a week now!
  4. I'm so happy with his progress! I really panicked when I saw the pineconing, but the awesome people of kokos came to the rescue haha! Thankyou guys Do you think the MMs and Epsom need to be continued? He is acting just like his normal self
  5. Thankyou so much! I have enough to see me through at least tomorrow and monday morning anyway I don't know if he needs more - today is day 14 of the antibiotics! Pics as promised:
  6. I've got enough for the next two days I think - I don't know how much longer he will need the meds? I'm back now and I think he's looking good the black marks are taking a while to fade, but I think his fin is looking better, he doesn't look bloated and his scales look pretty much normal! I will upload a pic tomorrow so you can see his progress Thankyou so much Becs, you are an absolute star! I very much owe you one!
  7. That would be brilliant, thankyou! I will have to send you a thankyou something I'm away at the moment, but my parents have been keeping me updated haha! All is still well with kimi though
  8. Okiedoke, well he should finish the MMs in about 6 days, so I shall keep things the same until then. Does that include the Epsom? I'm not sure if I'll have enough antibiotics if he needs more though, what with some getting wasted early on with him not eating them as well! :/
  9. Thankyou so much guys, your support means so much! I get so anxious about my fish sometimes, and it's really reassuring to come here And that is an amazing story shakaho - really shows how you should never give up! These little guys are hardy! Right, time for some of my more *ahem* amazing camera skills Sorry it's a bit blurry! But hopefully it shows the difference in his scales from a week or so ago! Even just from a few days ago I don't think he looks especially bloated - he did about a week ago and I tried giving him some peas along side the epsom and MMs, which may have helped.
  10. A quick update - sorry things have been crazy busy the past few days! I think it's going well, fingers crossed! I will try to get a pic soon, but today I really think his scales are a little flatter. He's acting like his normal self at the moment, and he's eating the MMs no problem now. He's halfway through the dose now. Should I continue with the epsom? He's been in it about 8 days now.
  11. Thankyou guys I do really appreciate your help, despite having kept fish for over 10 years I still feel really unsure where it comes to choosing the right treatment! It's still a bit early/dark to tell this morning, but Kimi was eager for a few pellets just now, and I think the pineconing has improved a tiny bit
  12. Pic as promised! This was taken a couple of hours ago. What do you think? I can't work out if the pineconing is worse - maybe a little, but not alot? I think there's a touch more black than there was in the first pics too? He is still acting much the same, though I've managed to get pretty much all the MMs down him today
  13. Hmm, I'm not sure - the only place I can think I could get that would be online, and I don't know how easy/safe it is to buy antibiotics online? Though I wonder if I melted down an agar gel food, could I add crushed MMs to that? However, I managed to get him to eat a fair bit of the MMs yesterday Sorry I haven't got round to the pics yet. He's still looking pretty similar, but I will try later today.
  14. Hmm, I'm not sure if we're making progress :/ yesterday the pineconing looked a little worse, but it seems back to how it was today. The other symptoms are still constant, but he looks just a little more lethargic today It's tricky getting him to eat the MMs. He is eating a little 'normal' food when I try, but he doesn't seem to find the meds appealing! I am hand feeding and rubbing them in a little garlic, I guess its just a case of perseverance. Is there anything more I can do for him? How long can he stay in Epsom salts?
  15. Things seem to be remaining fairly constant with Kimi - I guess it beats getting worse, but I'm not sure what to do next for him? I will take some more photos tomorrow, but the pineconing looks the same to me, and while the black hasn't faded it hasn't spread either. His fin looks much the same also, his other fins are all good. He's still acting as if nothing is wrong lol! What do you think about the antibiotics?
  16. Ok this was the best I could get I'm afraid! Hopefully it's enough to get a sense of what's going on though.
  17. Grr, my camera is just not speaking to my computer right now. I have some (albeit blurry) pics, I will try to upload them again soon sorry! Everything seems the same still, so not getting worse (touch wood) at least! The meds arrived today - thankyou so much Becs!!! It's 1% of the fish's weight for 2 weeks right? So for example 0.6g per day for a 60g fish? Do you think I should start them straight away?
  18. I am just about to leave the house for work, I will try to get some as soon as I get in! It's just looking white(ish) around the edges, and like it's being nibbled away
  19. Aw thankyou so much everyone! I really do appreciate it Well, he's moved and got the epsom salts. I haven't got any wormer plus at the moment, but can order some if you think it's needed? Things seem the same this morning, though I have noticed his pectoral fin is looking a little ragged ( I think you can see that beginning in those pics up there actually) But he still seems perfectly happy in himself, which is something I guess!
  20. Ok will get on to that today! Thankyou! Remind me of the dosage for epsom? I'll be using an 80l tank. And how warm again? Sorry!
  21. Thankyou everyone aw that's so kind of you Becs, thankyou! I don't know if they're needed yet or not, but it might be good to have some on hand! I haven't moved him yet or anything, everything is exactly the same today - thankfully Kimi is still acting well - so I didn't want to jump in and just do something without being sure where to start, incase I do more harm than good :/ I am wondering whether epsom salts are a good first call of action? Which I guess means isolating him?
  22. Hello guys, sorry it's been a very long time since I've shown my face here! Life has been fairly manic and there's been some rubbish stuff going on lately, so I haven't been able to come online much atall. However, I am in dire need of your wonderful advice! Test Results for the Following: * Ammonia Level(Tank) 0 * Nitrite Level(Tank) 0 * Nitrate level(Tank) 5-10 * Ammonia Level(Tap) 0 * Nitrite Level(Tap) 0 * Nitrate level(Tap) 5-10 * Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.8 * Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines) 7.8 Other Required Info: * Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API drops * Water temperature? Room temp, about 24C * Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 160l, about 3 years * What is the name and "size of the filter"(s)? Interpet (I don't recall the name! P4 I think, but it's 1000lph) Fluval U4, 1000lph * How often do you change the water and how much? Weekly, about 60% * How many days ago was the last water change and how much did you change? Last saturday, 70%, just did a 60% change now though * How many fish in the tank and their size? 3 commons, about 4-5 inches average, they're about 10 years old now * What kind of water additives or conditioners? Amquel Plus * What do you feed your fish and how often? Twice a day, gel food/bloodworm/brine shrimp/egg/peas/veggies etc * Any new fish added to the tank? No * Any medications added to the tank? No * List entire medication/treatment history for fish and tank. Please include salt, Prazi, PP, etc and the approximate time and duration of treatment. Salt and Prazi Pro last year for some flicking which has stopped now * Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Slight pineconing on Kimi, and he has a little black marks on his head (0 ammonia though) * Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Nope, all the fish are acting perfectly So I was just doing my weekly water change and I noticed Kimi is starting to pinecone! It's only slight, and he doesn't seem too bloated, but of course I am panicking now. The other day I noticed he was getting some black marks around his head - now he started life off black and orange, the black grew quite a bit over the years, then receeded mostly apart from a few tiny patches around his head. So, I was keeping a close eye on him but given he was behaving fine, no other concerns and the water quality was fine, I decided to wait on taking any dramatic action. Now I am regretting that He is behaving totally normally, like nothing is wrong atall. No bottom sitting, no flicking, eating perfectly, dorsal fin all perky.. infact all my fish have been muddling along just great recently. The other fish seem 100% fine at the moment too. What do I do?! My first thought was 'isolation, heat, epsom, antibiotics', but I don't want to move him until I have a sensible treatment plan (if he needs one), and while I am concerned about the other fish they're obviously already exposed to whatever is going on anyway. So I don't know whether they'd all need treating anyway. One of my biggest concerns here is the age of my fish. I know goldies can live a long time, but of course they've been through a fair bit in the years I didn't know what I was doing. They're all around 10 years old now, and given nothing new has been introduced I am concerned this is an old-age thing. Obviously I will do whatever I can to look after these guys, but I just don't know what's best to do. Worst of all I'm not even around at home that much at the moment
  23. I was going to do as suggested this afternoon (I was at college till 2pm), but came home to some very sad news ... Angus died this morning I am gutted. Just a week ago he seemed happy, healthy and active. He went downhill so quickly... and I have no idea why unless it was simply 'old age'. Thankyou for your advice with this, Narny, it is much appreciated. RIP little guy
  24. While I was trying to feed him earlier (he didn't seem particularly bothered ), I noticed he's looking a little odd from above. I don't know if it's something to worry about, but he seems rather slim with almost a bulge at the end of his body. I tried to get a pic of it: I was getting panicky wondering if he was pineconing atall, or if that's just the shape of the scales over this little bump. Could there be something funky going on inside?
