  1. Thanks koko, i just saw your goldfish photos and they look gorgeous. Jupiter looks so cute, im hoping my next addition will look as good as him :-)
  2. Thanks dnalex I thought Id post it under the black moor thread in celebration of my favourite goldfish. Although it is a very long thread...Ill leave it here for now.
  3. Here are the pictures all put together, I dont know how to make the photos smaller though. The photos are a bit blurry since she wouldnt stop moving. Ive had her for 3 years now and she has doubled in size from when I first got her. She lost one of her scales yesterday when she hit the decoration otherwise shes all black with a little yellow on the belly. .
  4. Hi all, just thought id post a photo of my black moor. Im a new member so im not sure if the upload will work. http://m1240.photobucket.com/albumview/albums/goldieluva/20120408_110930.jpg.html?newest=1

Fish poop looks normal not stringy, dont think its injury as both eyes have it and it seems to be inside the eyeball, kinda looks like a mini white raspberry if you look inside closely (cant see on photo) Ive started salt treatment 1tbsp per 5 gallons any ideas if this will work?
  6. heres the link dk if it will work let me know...http://www.flickr.com/photos/45982978@N06/
  7. My black moor has developed a cloudy eye, overtime it has gotten worse and now the pupil looks almost white. I think his vision has worsened as he is a bit slower at finding food. When I bought him from the LFS i noticed a couple of his tank mates had this problem any idea what it is and how to cure it? ps. how do i add a photo apparently flickr doesnt work.
  8. Hey thanks for the responses. The api kit I bought at the beginning of this year, so its not old. Measured ph today and its identical to tap water. Ill buy a thermometer and see if it happens during the next water change. They're still bottom sitting eventhough readings are normal. Ill keep you posted.
  9. I dont think its the temperature because i leave the water out in the same room overnight. I also add the water in very slowly and leave a 15 minute break between each bucket load i put in. pH is almost always the same as tap water and my nitrates are at 0.
  10. Im back again and sad to say that the same problem is still occuring. They always get better but it takes them around 5 days then when i change the water the same thing happens. After I change the water they seem very lively then overnight the next day there very sleepy and not moving much. I use ammolock as a conditioner. I changed from aquaplus just to see if it would make a difference but it didnt. Could a salt dip solve the problem? I still have no clue as to how this is happening. Anyone else experience the same thing in the past?
  11. Hey thanks for the thorough reply, it clears alot up. My lfs doesnt have any small orandas theyre either adults or younger but already showing some of their wen so I'll keep an eye out for the larger ones. The black moor I bought was the largest in the lfs so hopefully I can do the same with a younger Oranda as the adult ones are expensive, plus I also enjoy seeing them grow
  12. Are there different types of Oranda? I'm thinking of getting one and I did a recent google image search and found that some have larger wens then others and some seem to have their wen extend to their cheeks (excuse the terminology). The red capped oranda seems to have a smaller wen while some that I've looked at have it covering around their eyes to their gills. I'm only going to get an oranda if I can find one that has the wen extending past the eyes making the face look pudgy. How can I be sure that when I buy one from lfs that it is that variety when it grows bigger? Are red capped orandas a no go if I want this sort of looking fish?
  13. I changed the water and the same thing happened again they are now bottom sitting. Ammonia and nitrite = 0 nitrate= 10. Taps nitrate = 0. ph in tap same as tank 7.4. I had them in a separate tank when i changed the water so I dont think its the stirring of the gravel. They look really sick and I have no clue what it is.
  14. By cleaning the filter i mean rinsing it in old tank water to remove debris. I'll change the tank water on saturday and ill check ph and nitrates in both the tap and tank water and Ill let you know the stats. Ill also check ammonia and nitrites. Temp should be the same as ill leave the water out overnight in the same room. If theres anything else I should check/ do let me know. I also bought salt after reading one of the articles but now I'm worried that it's marine salt. Is marine salt, rock salt crystals because on the packet it says 'naturally evaporated sea salt' ? Im just concerned because the article said it has dangerous buffers?
  15. Hey thanks for the posts, Im currently away from home but the first thing ill do when I get back (which is on friday) is check nitrates in the tap water. I do use a gravel vac and I always make sure I vacuum most of it. I clean my filter each week and I dont see any debris come out but it may be a possibility. The ammolock conditioner leaves the ammonia in the tank but in a non toxic form so bacteria can still use it. It was more of a precautionary measure just in case ammonia rises and it was the same price as normal one. I havent treated them for flukes whats prazi? Im in Australia so Im not sure if we have it. Oh and the black moore wasnt quarantined I know I probably shouldnt have done that because his cloudy eye is getting worse hence the myxazin. I just purchased a powerhead after some inspiration from this site to build a canister filter. Now ill have the 800lph and 500lph powerhead ... I didn't want too much water turbulence for them which is why i got a 500lph. Hopefully itll work...
