Looks like a scale is hanging of now. I can try and get a picture.
  2. No name for this little guy yet, he's very cute.
  3. I just came along to post a thread about green water. Since I went bare bottom and took out all my gravel my water has been green 2-3 days after my weekly water change. Is this because the fish poop is not vanishing into the gravel and just sitting exposed plus the almost constant daylight the tan is exposed to? I have a battery powered vac I try and clean all the poop out every other day, but I guess I must be missing some. How is green water good for your aquarium? If it's really not harmful I am not to fussy about leaving it.
  4. Hehe, I have yet to take some pic's. I need to get a new syphon first this week end to remove the rest of the little bit's of gravel and debris sitting in awkward places. I have done three water changes since removing the gravel just get rid of any nastiness I may have stirred uop.
  5. I finally decided to go bare bottom, after much opposition to it. It's so much nicer looking and easy as heck to clean. I'll get some pic's up soon. the tank is a little cloudy after doing it as so much crud was churned up. I did a 50% water change but I think it needs another.
  6. How do goldfish eat algae? I have never seen mine do it, but do they just sort of suck it of?
  7. I have 3 in a 33gal, my redcap is stunted though from the fish shop, I have had him for over 6 month and he's never really grown. My Ryukin/fantail is bloody huge I have had him for 5 month and my blue Oranda I have had for 2-3 month he's already getting pretty big.
  8. I love nice green algae, I just leave it to grow on most things, I clean the front of the tank every few days but I leave it on the back of the tank on the stones and drift wood. Besides my Hillstream loach needs it to survive. I think my tank is getting to much light, I am going to put the light on a timer as I am at fulltime work now it's getting 10 hours of the lights and also a bit from the windows.
  9. I use only a Fluval U4 on my 125 litre tank, that's 8 times per hour if it is actually 1000lph. My water is always crystal clear and my fish have never been ill in the 2 months I have had this filter running.
  10. I do a weekly 30% and once a month I clean the filter. Daily almost I vacuum the poops out. I have a battery powered vacuum that only picks up the crud so I always give the gravel a good clean every couple of days. I net any floating matter daily to.
  11. Gorgeous fish, I love the black/orange hot rod combo. Looks fantastic, will they stay like that or go completely orange or black?
  12. Well, I am testing daily. If it doesn't need the buff up stuff I am going to stop using it. You only need to add 3ml for 30gal, that puts it up 0.2 per dose, I have done 3 doses so I think the shells have probably done most of the work.
  13. Well my ph is now back to 7+. I think the combo of the crushed sea shells and the water change and the API buff up stuff I got have helped. It has been steadily going up not down over the last few days. So hopefully that's fixed. I may get some crushed coral just in case this happens again.
  14. Well it was 5 yesterday so 6.5 is a definite improvement.
  15. Well as of this morning the ph is now 6.5, so it hasn't fallen since the water change. I will just keep checking twice a day. I have some crushed seashells in to.
  16. I have a Chinese hilstream loach that gets on really well with the goldfish he's cleaned 6 big river stones of brown and green algae and now he's starting on the sides of the tank. They don't grow very large either, although they do like fast flowing water they can easily live without it, just so long as they have some rocks to cling to and hide under.
  17. Aha, yes there is, I totally forgot about that. It's an amazing marine store, loads of tanks of crazy creatures. I was actually 5 mins from there today. I am not going to get a chance to get along untill next Saturday now. I am working 9-5 now days through the week. My lfs is coldwater and tropical only. This other place specialises just in Marine.
  18. I'll try the seashells for now untill I can find the coral. Just shipping for it of the net is quite high.
  19. I couldn't find any crushed coral today, but I did get some API ph buff. I was wondering if I could add some boiled and cleaned crushed seashells? I have a selection from around the world I could smash' em up and put them in a sack in the tank. I have done a partial water change and the ph has increased by about .5, so I haven't added any ph buff just yet as I know to much of an increase can kill them. I will test daily and if it's not ok to add the seashells, I will start dossing with the ph buff I have.
  20. I will see what the lfs has today. To be honest my fish have never been better, no illness of any kind since I got them into the 33gal, they are showing no signs at all that this ph crash is bothering them. It's crazy. I might pick up some test strips today to see if they show the same ph as my drops. As per usual thank you all for your help. I love getting educated on things I am intrested in, knowledge is nice
  21. He's so cute, almost looks like a cartoon character.
  22. Would this stuff do the trick? http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/seachem-...ffer-1000g.html
  23. Mine didn't come with a base unit, I am not sure about this plastic ring either. In the instructions it says to partially bury it in the substrate for the ario 1,2,3. I take it the 4 should just be sitting on top of the gravel? Maybe it was so noisy because I burried it a bit. I have a better air flow adapter from my fluval filter for the venturi, I might see if that fits the airline and regulates the flow any better.
  24. I am in the UK, I am sure I saw something called ph buff in my lfs last time I was in.
  25. I do a 30-50% change once a week. This weeks was 4 days ago. The good news is that it's payday tomorrow. But I am at work all day. So Saturday I will get some buff it up. Is it normal for the fish to appear happy and healthy in such a low ph? I thought maybe my test kit was of, but it's testing my tap water as 7+.
