  1. Here's a short, faster-paced version of the Ultimate Goldfish Video: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/770771/ultim...goldfish_video/ I find the people at MetaCafe have short attention spans. ). Please sign up for a MetaCafe account and vote!
  2. Sorry guys, I took down the video because it didn't get off to a good enough start in terms of views and ratings at MetaCafe. I'm trying to create winning Producer videos at MetaCafe. The requirement is a rating of at least 3.0 and 20,000 views. From trial and error, I know the video needs to have a rating of at least 3.9 and 5,000 views after the first 12 hours to have a decent chance of making it to 20,000 views. So, if I have a video that has potential but gets off to a bad start, I prefer to withdraw the video and resubmit it later (maybe with some improvements in editing). Here's my only winning video so far: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/752272/speeding_penguin/ This video reached 20,000 views within two days. Anyway, you guys can really help me next time by creating an account on MetaCafe, logging in, and voting immediately after I post the video. High ratings initially gives the video a good start and is critical for it to get promoted to the top pages. A bad start with a some low ratings can cripple the video from the get go, and it'll never reach the top pages and have a chance for others to rate higher.

  4. And, finally, the new fish I bought! http://www.metacafe.com/watch/757026/10_new_fish/
  5. Well, the four Orandas that I got from the tank are all doing great! I'll have movies soon. I had some previous bad experiences with big fishes from the store. I bought some that looked great but then developed weird ulcers a month or two later and died a few weeks after that. In contrast, one of the tiny fish I bought from them two years ago is now over 7 inches! Here are the biggest Koi fish for sale:http://www.metacafe.com/watch/755290/huge_japanese_koi/
  6. Now, for the big guys I passed up! http://www.metacafe.com/watch/753489/grade_aa_goldfish/
  7. Yeah, when I go into a store like Hung-Ming, I wonder if there are enough goldfish customers to buy all of these fish within the next two years! Like there are at least 10-15 tanks with 200+ goldfish each! When I go to other pet store or aquarium store in my area, I typically find maybe 10 goldfish for sale. :-). I usually take one look and leave. Now, I have to say that the quality of the goldfish (even the ones among the huge batch in some tanks) are significantly better than the few I see at other local stores. However, that says more for the low-quality I typically see at other stores. Among the ~3,000 goldfish Hung-Ming had on display this weekend, I don't remember seeing many sick ones. I can't say the same for other stores with much lower fish populations. For the first time, I did not even bother to try to pick out my fish. I just said four from this tank, two from here, two from here, etc. I bought all small fish this time. Normally, I buy medium to large fish from Hung-Ming, and I'm much pickier about those. With all of these small fish, I knew I'd be here all day trying to pick one, and they would have to give me the net!
  8. I don't know how many exactly, but I would say at least 200. I bought four of them. ). http://www.metacafe.com/watch/752427/red_c...ny_in_the_tank/
  9. I finally put together the video documenting the transformation! http://www.metacafe.com/watch/743857/my_go..._changes_color/
  10. My second trip to the store: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/741744/thous...ldfish_part_ii/
  11. Two years ago, I posted this goldfish video on this forum, and it received quite a response. Now, I've posted it to MetaCafe, and it is one of the top new videos in the Pets and Animals section. I can start earning "producer rewards" if the video reaches 20,000 views. If you like the video, give it five stars and help it's rank! Note: You have to register as a member to vote. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/725521/thous...utiful_goldfish
  12. Well, I just want to report back that the impeller was indeed the problem for both of my Pondmaster pump failures! I ordered replacement impellers for both filter, and installation of the new parts restored both the pumps. Now, I have an extra filter kit.
  13. Thanks. I've already disassembled and reassembled the pump, but it doesn't seem to help. Maybe, I need to read up about how the impeller system works to figure out what might the problem be. Do you actually take the impeller apart? I just removed it and put it back.
  14. My Pondmaster pump (190 gph) for my filter kit suddenly stopped working after about one year. I bought a whole new Pondmaster kit with a larger pump (350 gph). I was impressed with the power of the pump for about 24 hours. Then, while moving it today, the new pump stopped working also! For both of these pumps, I took off the cover and inspected the impeller assembly. No damage as far as I can see. Both these pumps still make some noise when plugged in, but very little water is pumped. Any advice?
  15. So do all black ranchus look the same?
  16. Yeah, this time, I didn't need to go to Hung-Ming Pet Central in SF China Town to get a good fish. I was surprised to see a good ranchu at my local Seascape store in Mountain View. A little over-priced for his size at $14, but he's worth it.
  17. This video doesn't do his cuteness justice! Interesting, the orange ranchu in the video used to be black/chocolate. I hope this new guy keeps his color! http://youtube.com/watch?v=njIp0-On4WA
  18. Oh yeah, he's definitely strong and healthy! The reason I haven't had any videos and pictures of him for months is because I couldn't catch him to move him from my pond to my tank. Catching a fast, vigorous fish in a pond is pretty hard! I guess that's why he's was the lone surviving fry.
  19. I don't think it's very pretty. I'm glad you think more highly of it. I guess the fry survived being eaten on it's own, so it's a strong swimmer. Strong swimmers are probably built more like commons than fancies. Well, I have another baby in my pond right now.
  20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtdsTBkvinI I don't know who the parents are, and I don't know what type of goldfish it is. The grown fry is now 4 inches long. It's a fantail, but the shape of its body is more like a common. I had ranchus, orandas, ryukins, and fantails in my tank. No commons! I think my former chocolate ranchu (now gold) is the mother, since she once laid some eggs, and the chocolate and gold coloration is consistent with hers.
  21. My new little fantails: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4WDk7PSrVfo
  22. Well, Seascape in Mountain View is a small store that has independent tanks. I never have to stare long at the tanks to select out the fish I want, since there are usually only a few fish to choose from. Today, I saw that Seascape is actually charging admission for touring the store (50 cents)! Haha. They are the most centrally located fish store I know in downtown Mountain View. I guess there so many who come in to the store just for fun, but never buy anything.
  23. I have been testing the water parameters in my tank and pond. My tank parameters have been pretty stable, since I've been keeping it lightly stocked. The pond has had a few fluctuations since the weather has cooled off and the hyacinths have been dying. I feed less now, and it seems to have fixed the problem. I have tried salting the tank and feeding the fish Medigold with little effect. Today, I got two small calico fantail (orandas?) from my local fish store around the block (Seascape in Mountain View, CA). All of a sudden, getting some small, cheap fish at nearby stores sound more appealing than driving to SF to hunt for that big, fat beauty that may or may not live.
