  1. Aw, poor Bubba! RIP little buddy! That show makes me laugh until my larynx shoots out my nose, mainly because my guy friends are those guys. Awkward and brilliant. So terribly, terribly awkward and brilliant.
  2. Just a quick update -- I added the second dose of Prazi today and did a *thorough* check of Chester's face, to the point that he looked like he'd bite me if I tried to flip him over again. All is still clear! I can't even tell where the sore was! Phew.
  3. Aw Sue, what a fantasmic tank! It's going to look brilliant when it's all finished!! And the fish are just about as gorgeous and varied as you could hope for. Ten bucks if you guess which one is *my* favorite...
  4. All righty! Bubbleboy had asked for a baby update, and heaven knows I'm always up for more bragging about my frylets. PhoenixFail has already been gifted, but I've still got three left, so I set up a bit of a photo shoot in my living room. Me: "Hi baby! Would you mind staying real still so I can take a photo?" Unnamed Frylet: "Sure thing mommy!" "I love to be photographed!" "Look at my cute little tail!" "It's fun to stay really still so mommy can take comparison pictures!" Me: "Hi Elevensies! Can you stay still just like your big brother?" Elevensies: "Gyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" "You can't make meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!" "If you don't stay still, so help me, I'll feed you to your father!" "..."
  5. Just got home and lo and behold, the red sore is nowhere to be found! So hopefully he's all fixed up for good, now. I haven't been able to stare at them long enough to see if Chester is still yawning, but I'll treat the tank again with Prazi tomorrow, and a third time at the end of the week. ::: twirls ::: Thanks with all your help on this, friends! I'm glad it didn't turn out to be anything crazy.
  6. Well, the big tank had an 80% water change last night, and then I added PraziPro. Whoo! I then gave the goldies a very stern talking to, about Tank Safety and Playing Nicely With Others and Not Being Dead When I Get Home, and now I'm off for the weekend!
  7. Merry Christmas everybody!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And voila -- a picture of my tank: The rocks were pretty sharp when I first got them, but that was five years ago, and I ran them in a rock tumbler before I put them in the tank, so they're basically as smooth at this point as it's possible for decorative plastic rocks to get. The baby net has rounded edges as well. The floaty baby *tank* has vaguely sharp corners, but the way it's tucked, I think Chester would have had to have been actively trying to commit suicide for him to have gashed himself on it. I'll do a massive water change today, and then treat with the Prazi -- from the instructions, I gathered that I only need to treat them once? (More than once won't be an issue; I just don't want to start a treatment and then be gone this weekend, and miss dosing them correctly.)
  8. ::: LAUGHS ::: I'm hoping all the regulars will have returned by Monday -- I'm going out of town myself this Friday for the weekend, so if he stays stable until then, I'll probably try and hold off on haphazardly medicating him until I get back. (He'd *better* stay stable. Grrrr.)
  9. It looks a *little* bigger today, but also slightly lighter. Or maybe it's just that I've been staring at it so long I've lost perspective and am making up changes to make myself feel better. On hand over the holidays, I have Prazi, Triple Sulfa, Maracyn Two and Maracyn... Plus? TC? Something like that, Jungle AntiBacterial food, and MediGold. If the elusive mods decide I need anything else, Chester's going to have to go to the store himself, because *I'm* not braving the roads this weekend. Thanks for your help on this, Stephie! Um... feel free, to, you know, enjoy your holidays without needing to check in. We'll presumably be fine until you get back.
  10. All right -- here's a *massive* load of pictures. I hope y'all appreciate the skillful way I managed to crawl beneath my stand to get shots of the underside of the sore. Bless you, barebottom tanks.... The yawning started up again as I was taking photos. You can still see the sore, which appears to have spread all out as he opened his mouth. And *then*, just since I got home today, he has added a red sore spot to the end of his tail. It's the longest part -- miraculously didn't fall off along with the rest of his tail, back when finrot was everywhere -- and it honestly looks like he bent it somehow. Probably this is something completely different, but what the heck, might as well bring it up, eh?
  11. I was treating Chester's weird cyst that he's got on his side. I'm thinking more and more that it's *not* a cyst, but a tumor, because he did a full treatment of the TriSulfa stuff, which ended up being... five days? Something like that. Anyway, a full course of meds, and it didn't affect the cyst in the slightest. It just made Chester give me weird looks, all "Why am I in this boring little tank?" Maybe, though, if it took yours 16 days of meds, I just didn't treat him long enough for that.... Also, yikes! *Look* at that fin! I'm glad he recovered!!
  12. I'll definitely take a second set of pictures when I get home today -- he'll get all cocky, thinking his thousands of adoring fans just can't get enough of him. I have some TriSulpha somewhere in my house -- that's what I was treating him with last month, actually -- but since that doesn't seem to have worked when I'm out getting Prazi I'll also pick up some Maracyn 2... or Plus... or whatever one also has sulpher in it... just in case he needs another treatment. I've also got more salt than anyone could ever want, if we decide to just hope for the best and douse him in it, MediGold, and... one of the Jungle med foods. Can't remember offhand which one. Leslie, he hasn't been flashing or rubbing as far as I can tell, other than the other day when he was trying to scratch himself on the plants. Which didn't work, obviously, but it was what made me take a closer look at his jaw. Thanks for your help on this, guys! Y'all rock solid -- I know it's probably nothing, but I feel way better having other people to bounce ideas off of!
  13. Gaaaaah, flukes....... I'll pick up some Prazi on my way home -- anything else anyone thinks I should get, just to be on the safe side? If it turns out to be something else, it'll be difficult to get anything med-wise come tomorrow.
  14. He was salted to 0.3, but he started showing wiggy symptoms after just the first 12 hours, so... would that have been at 0.1? Or 0.2? Something like that. It doesn't look any bigger, but the white part has spread and is much more visible sticking-out; that is, you can see the white bump when he's facing from the other side, even though you can't see the red "cut" part. On the upside, less yawning! Maybe he is just uncomfy because there's a nasty scrape right on his gill. Poor thing. (I really hope it's not flukes. I never treated them for anything -- never ever -- up until August when I first learned about things like flukes, at which point I treated the whole tank with a full run of API General Cure.)
  15. Nope! I haven't medicated any of the babies. But I assumed that Elevensies wouldn't have been able to pick up flukes having been moved from the main tank (where he was born) to a quarantine tank (with water changes made from the main tank) and then back to the main tank, just because... it was all the same water.
  16. Well, I just got home and gave him a look-over; the scrape seems slightly bigger now, and the red is slightly darker. He's also "yawning" repeatedly -- I was sitting with him for maybe ten minutes, and I bet he yawned ten times. Is that... a bad sign?
  17. I saw those pics and wanted to steal him. What a cute little sideways sucker!!!!!
  18. Thanks Stephie! And Kathy! I hope it's just a cut. It's the white part that's worrying me a bit, but if he's been sliced by something then I guess it makes sense that he'd have a little dangly... skin... or whatever. Eeuw. If it was one of my other fishies I'd just drop him in salt, but because he did that whole Swelling Up To Three Times His Size And Shooting Scales Everywhere the last time I tried, I'm... too scared to. I was lecturing Chester this morning -- "Don't you know this is a SUPER inconvenient time for you to get hurt? There's no one left on kokos!"
  19. I added Elevensies the Baby from his little separate tank into the main tank, and put him in his own Floating Box Thing rather than the net the other two are in. But I cleaned that sucker like it was going out of style, so unless Chester managed to swim upside down at the top of the tank and cut himself on the corner of it, I don't think it could be the problem. Other than that, there's really nothing for him *to* scrape himself on. It's a barebottom tank except for a few light smooth plastic rocks and live plants. It looked about the same this morning -- maybe a little more red -- but at least it's not getting worse? I'll hope he pulls a Starbuck and recovers with no intervention from me.
  20. Could he have just... gotten anchor worm? I mean, without having been exposed to anything new?
  21. [*]Ammonia Level? 0 [*]Nitrite Level? 0 [*]Nitrate level? 10 [*]Ph Level, Tank 7.8ish? [*]Ph Level, Tap 7.6ish? [*]Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API drops [*]What is the name and size of the filter(s)? Penguin Biowheels 250 and 100 [*]How often do you change the water and how much? Twice a week 10%, once a week 50%, 100% monthly [*]How many fish in the tank and their size? Three biggish goldies (plus three babies) [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? Prime [*]What do you feed your fish and how often? Twice a day, varies between flakes, gel food, table scraps.... [*]Any new fish added to the tank? Unless you're counting the babies, no. [*]Any medications added to the tank? Nope! [*]Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? Chester still has his cyst, but nothing new.... [*]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? Chester was shimmying against the plants, which is how I noticed his cut. Oh, Chester... I went to feed them dinner tonight, and noticed that he was rubbing up against the plants in a sort of odd way. Closer inspection revealed a red... cut? Sore? Infection? with a bit of white hanging off of it. And it's freaking me out. I suppose it's possible it was there this morning and I missed it, but I *know* he was fine last night. Other than rubbing the bottom of his head a bit against the plants, he seems fine -- ate, is swimming like normal now, doesn't seem distressed, etc. The last time I treated him with salt right off the bat he reacted *badly*, so I'd rather not try that again unless I don't have any other options. He was quarantined somewhere around a month and a half ago, because I was trying to treat his cyst, but that definitely didn't work, so I suppose this could be from creepies still lurking in his system... or maybe he scraped himself... or maybe it's rabies? Help!
  22. A friend is bringing me a bagful of something called "Ammannia Gracilis" later this week. Does anyone... know what it is?
  23. My oranda is a *snob* -- he's definitely the brat of the tank, but I love him anyway!
  24. All right, 'fess up -- what did you spike his dinner with?
