  1. I was going to say to finish up the med food, depending on the brand it ranges from 5, 8, or 10 days. but since this food old, (and it's been opened before?), I would stop feeding. fast, and then feed cooked, deshelled peas. mush them up a little before feeding, and make sure there's no sugar or salt in the peas.

  2. first question I need to ask is did you perform a full, 100% water change before adding in the epsom salt? epsom salt and salt do not mix.

your salt is off too. it's 3 teaspoons to equal one tablespoon. and it's 1 teaspoon per gal. there is a GREAT link in my sig for help w/ salting.

the epsom is correct, 1/4 teaspoon per 10 gals.

your pH is low. that can be causing some of the issues you are having. I have another great link in my sig about pH/kH/gH help. you'll need to get that raised. do it slowly though, as fluctuations in pH are not good.

  3. it could very well be a problem, but if it's not now later on it would be. the manufacturer's of these don't think about cycles, they just think of money. since most of the filters like this only have room for cartridges the bb's live on there so once you toss them out goes your cycle. the manufacturers want you to replace the cartridges often, so that way they get more $ and the carbon will be replaced b4 it starts to release the contents back into the water. but then your cycle gets bumped. in your filter do you have a bag of bio media? Koko just stuffs her filters w/ a bag of bio media and filter floss I think. having the bio media insures that the majority of the bb's will live there.

  4. check chegg.com or alibris.com to sell your books back. I think you can even sell text books on amazon.com.

you can go w/ either hob's or a canister. you'd need a couple hob's on the tank I'd think, like the Aquaclear 110's, http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=3610 I use canister filters on all my tanks, http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=3602

definitely get an airpump rated for a larger tank and two or three airstones/bubble wands. here's a link to the air pump I use, there is a chart which tells you what sizes are available, http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=12738

  5. I don't want to add to the all posts going on but I really agree w/ getting some photos taken. if you have a digital camera use the macro function which looks like a flower. make sure you have good lightening in the room, tank light on, and play around using the flash or having it off. if the pictures aren't sharp when you go for close ups then don't zoom in, instead zoom out b/c you can edit the photo later. then the site most used here to upload your pictures to are photobucket.com. you can edit your photos on this site once uploaded and it's so simple even a caveman can do it or someone like me! :)

no one is going to tell you if you have costia, parasite, or disease w/out picture confirmation. it's too risky to suggest treatments as the wrong medications can do more harm than good and can even cause death.

    1. get pictures
    2. test pH from tap and tank
    3. test nitrate and continue testing for ammonia and nitrite
    4. give the sump a good cleaning if you haven't already. make sure to use either old tank water or dechlorinated tap water
    5. have they ever been treated for flukes?
    6. how much surface splash do you have in the tank? if it's low try and lower the water level.
    7. your airstone, does it make big or small bubbles? small bubbles are best. also think of adding additional bubblers to your tank as it is so large.
    8. driftwood will lower pH if it's real wood. is it a faux piece of driftwood?--this can also create problems.

hope I didn't leave anything out that was already mentioned previously. Having sick fish is hard, we all know this, so I just wanted to bullet everything for your convenience. please post back w/ an update!

  6. oh no I can't believe at all that has happened to you today!! :( :(

    :rip: Suki

Sakura, if you still need mm's for Yoshi--I'm not sure if you do since you've been in contact with Ken--but we'd need 2 exchange addresses or at the least I need your zip code so I can work out s/h w/ fedex. I know the last thing you want to think about is more meds, but really if you need them I'd be more than happy to send them out.

Man, I just can't believe this at all! :cry1 Keeping you in my thoughts! :hug

  7. oh no! so have you placed the order already on the site? if not I have mm's, package only opened once to remove about 2 tablespoons of food to keep in a smaller container, then the bag was sealed back and put on the shelf in the box it was mailed in. I can see hm it costs 2 do same day delivery?--or overnight?--I'm not sure if the post office would be much help but I can do a fedex pickup? just an offer if you haven't gotten the order in yet @ GFC.

edit just rereading everything and Imo says a fresh unopened package, but considering mine are so new I wonder if they'd be ok? I really wouldn't mind shipping them out to you as I'd rather them not go to waste since I won't be needing them. If it sounds good to you about having me send them out we'll see if Imo thinks it's ok?

  8. prazi is a gently and safe way of killing gill flukes. prazi will not harm your beneficial bacteria in your filter so you don't have to worry about losing your cycle.

does your pH tend to drop after a few hours or days? if it is soft water I would think so. I have a pH/kH/gH link in my sig if you want to read up about it. :)

  9. I'm glad you could do a much larger water change as that is what is needed after a power outage like that. also a good rinse of the filter media. so you did everything correct. I must have misread your post I thought you said you had a water restriction so that's why I mentioned a small w/c.

not sure what the white water from the cartridges was...unless, do you have crushed coral in your filter?

and just 2 piggy back on Kukana's post, did you happen to get more filter media?
