  1. Well, now I'm sad. He didn't get the fish in today and said the breeder probably didn't feel they were ready for shipping, but he'll give me a call as soon as he hears anything.
  2. I can't help you out as I am very new to keeping goldfish. I can however suggest that you copy and paste the box at the top of the page and answer as many questions as you can. When you say it looks like it gets long, could it possibly be pus erupting into the water? If that is the case, you need to do a 100% water change asap. Somebody more knowlegeable will be along to help you shortly.
  3. I've been talking to the store manager for quite some time and he knows my set up and that I do quarantine new fish for at least 4 weeks so i think he might just let me bring one home tonight. I'm supposed to call him around 5 to see if he's gotten them all set up and ready for me to come see. I'm so excited. I've been looking for a new fish for a few months now and haven't seen any that really struck me.
  4. So, I went in to my favorite lfs yesterday since the manager had told me to come by this week before he does the order and he can let me know what the breeder has. He called the breeder and the guy said he has no oranda right now so he just took my name down to be on the lookout for a fish for me. He called the breeder back and the guy said "no I don't really have any oranda right now, just a bunch of chocolates and some with deviated color patterns" I guess he said it's hard to sell the chocolates and I have no idea what deviated color patterns means so I'm very intrigued. Anyway, the manager at the lfs ordered 4 chocolate and a few of the others and told me they're waiting for pickup at the airport right now and I should be able to come see them by about 6 tonight. I'm so excited. I'm going to be thinking about this all day long.
  5. Sorry to butt in here, but I was reading through your thread and I think this may have been missed. When you previously treated with salt, did you have the zeolite/ammo chips in your filter? Also, my fish will eat grapes, I usually give it to them without skins.
  6. OMG he's gorgeous, I'm so jealous right now. Congratulations and you have a great friend there.
  7. They both have just a few specs and are more active with salt. Should I go buy coppersafe or will salt suffice? I will try to get a better look tonight, but the spots I see kind of look like glitter, but a little smaller.

I treated with prazipro, even though they'd already been treated in quarantine. It didn't help at all. I added salt and they're currently at .2%. This has made them quite a bit more active, but I'm still worried that maybe I'm not doing the right thing. The topic on velvet prompted me to pull out a flashlight last night with all the lights out( they were not happy about that). Is it normal to have a less than half a dozen golden specks or is this early velvet? I could see a few, but not like they were infested with it. I don't know if I should treat or just try salt and darkness. Please help.
  9. Awww, what a beautiful rich red your fishy has become. I can definitely see a change. Kudos on keeping such a healthy beautiful fish.
  10. I'm getting ready to do a water change now, but I swear it's still going. She lays eggs, eats, poops, lays more eggs. Will she ever stop? And she's so tiny, I never expected it from her. OMG this fish is exhausting. I'm sure it's because I did a 75% ish water change yesterday. With that tank, it's a bit of a chore so I should have expected something to come up.
  11. She was watching for a minute, but it's hard to keep a 2 year old's attention on one thing. Unfortunately the only camera I have right now is really old and I have no video camera. I don't think I could get a very good picture. This tiny fish was a rescue almost 2 months ago. she was the smallest in the tank and was really getting picked on and missing alot of scales. I couldn't leave her there. I guess I should be happy that she's healthy enough to be dropping eggs now. I'm heading back to the tank to see if she's done lol.
  12. She's still dropping eggs, and then snacking happily on them. Poop, eggs, poop, eggs, when will it stop? I'll do a large water change today and another tomorrow after work and hope I don't get a spike.
  13. I just walked by my 75 gallon to find my tiny 1 1/2 inch fish dropping eggs everywhere. She is alone in there now so they won't be fertile. I was just wondering if 5 or so hours is too long to wait to do a water change. That way I won't have a toddler trying to "help" me.

    Bloodworms

Frozen is usually the best way to go with bloodworms. If you feed live foods, you run the risk of parasites or other such yuckies infecting your fish.
  15. I have a 20 and a 75, but I've decided against getting the fish I think. I don't want to move them all around to quarantine and my quarantine tank is too small for a fish his size. I'm going to call and let them know I won't be coming in for him.
  16. So, after deciding that I'm too scared to spend that much money on a fish from Rick, I decided to take a trip to a couple of pet stores around town. I went to my local smart and saw the cutest oranda. He's mostly black with some silver and gold, but he's wayyyy bigger than my other fish. I could make a quarantine work with a rubbermaid and some borrowed filter media and lots of water changes. I'm just wondering if he'll pick on my other guys. Ideally, he would go into the large tank, but I'm scared he'll eat my tiny fish. My little guy is only about 1 1/2 inches long. This guy is probably 5-6 inches. Or my other two fish could move out of the 20 gallon and this guy could go in there by himself for a while. My husband's not giving me much input, he just says if you want it, get it. Would it be a bad idea to buy such a large fish? My other 2 are about 3 - 3 1/2 inches. They held him overnight for me, but I need to decide today.
  17. Thank you, now I'm off to try and convince my husband that we need that fish.
  18. For the people who have ordered from rick before, how much does shipping run? I'm guessing it's a pretty penny. I am in love with that tiger oranda, but I'd like to get an idea of shipping before I make a bid.
  19. wow, I want to see a picture of that fish in the background with the great tail tuck. Your fish a cutie with that bumpy face.
  20. I have no advice really, but thought your thread may need some attention from the moderators. I probably would have screamed and jumped into a medication as well. I just wanted to let you know that maracyn II is deactivated by light so you have to keep your tank covered and you have to finish the treatment once started. Is your filter on the quarantine tank cycled? If not, you will really need to keep up with water changes and that means replacing the meds that you have taken out of the water with the water change. Good luck and I hope he's feeling better soon.
  21. Don't be so worried about it that you don't enjoy your vacation. If it makes you feel better, all my fish were fine when I got home. The only thing I noticed was a little bit of color fading from the lack of light. We usually keep blinds open all day when we're home. Have a great vacation and don't worry so much.
  22. Thank you all. It's so fun watching them grow. I'll work on posting pictures of my redcap rescue soon.
  23. I'm home for a few hours to check on everyone and my tiny fish is great. Water readings are fine, but I'm doing a large water change anyway. I'm so relieved. I've been so worried that I'd come home to a floating fish. I also came home to find my new bottle of prazipro here waiting for me. It's a happy day.
  24. Lol, the oxygen I think is fine. My husband's not crazy about it, but I'm leaving the air conditioner on while we're gone so the tank temps don't rise too much. Where the filter hits the water, I can see air bubbles go down about 75% of the way to the bottom. I think this should be sufficient, I was just really worried about being sooooo underfiltered.
  25. Thank you, I hope I make it quick too. I'll be here Friday and will probably do a water change regardless of readings, then monday the same. The rest of the time I'll probably make it back every couple of days.
