  1. I always buy almost $100 worth of fish food from him few times a year, never had a problem and fish love it.
  2. Your are correct, and its a shower curtain haha (chemical free) The one I am slowly working on now, with what I am planning will be a 3 part "spill over". So one box will sit higher than the rest, the middle will dump into the end, then the end into the tank. Thats going to be finished with a neoprene rubber paint. As for water exit I have a 2" hole on the side that runs into a pipe that dumps into the tank. For this new one I am building I am still undecided as if I want a "waterfall" or a pipe exit. Never thought about pvc boards, ever thought about vinyl/linoleum flooring? My current tank is plywood tank lined with vinyl flooring sealed with 100% white silicone. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Its first fill up inside (after a 3 day test in the garage) Uploaded with ImageShack.us Grass is what you would find in your yard I would assume. I have a gravel driveway and some grass was growing on that. So it wasnt a pain to pull up. Little tug and I was able to put up a mat without destroying the roots. Washing the dirt off the roots though destroyed my perfect mat!
  3. The tank is 6' long, the container is 5.5' long and 15" wide and 4" tall to give you the size of it. Every 6 months it seems I am building a bigger container, this one was built 2 months ago I would say. I have another container in process but me being lazy and cold outside is making it take longer to build. I should stop making excuses and go to the garage and finish the wood part. The one I am building is possibly the "final" one for this tank and not a temp as all of these were. Left to right, Hosta, Grass, Arrowheads, piece of wandering jew and pothos are in that mix, then goes to some tropical home depot plants, tiger lillies, mint plant then spider plant. Then dumps back into the tank. Up above is a twin t8 48" shop light with 6500k bulbs. Uploaded with ImageShack.us
  4. Pothos? OVERRATED. The best plant I have used? Arrowheads. Blow pothos out of the water. Uploaded with ImageShack.us I also have a Hosta ( I think it needs alot more light, past 4-5months havent gotten anything out of it yet. Pothos, grow, but not like the arrowheads Lawn grass, yes grass I added it 4 weeks ago, doing great so far. Spider plant, Been in for a long time, doesnt like twin 48" t8 lights. IM gonna trash those soon. Wandering jew. Stole a 2 leaf clipping from home depot, finally taking off. Tiger lilly (from your garden) so far so good I tried your regular outdoor fern, shot up 1 new leaf then died Mint, got it, they love it, but need more light as it gets leggy Maple trees, tried it, maybe not enough light then kinda did nothing, but the root structure did grow. Calla Lilly, eh not so much, either not enough light or they are very slowly dying Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Canister filter fills up at one end, then dumps back into the tank at the other. If I dont go crazy in feeding during the week, my nitrates stay at about 5. If I am generous Ill hit a 15. Yes I still read nitrates with all those plants, but big fish need lots of plants. My 15" koi doesnt help. Filled with lava rock, so it serves as bio media and nitrate machine.
  5. [*]Test Results for the Following: [*]Ammonia Level? 0 [*]Nitrite Level? 0 [*]Nitrate level? 20-30 before water change [*]Ph Level, Tank (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? 8 [*]Ph Level, Tap (If possible, KH, GH and chloramines)? 8 [*]Brand of test-kit used and whether strips or drops? API [*]Water temperature? 76.5 [*]Tank size (how many gals.) and how long has it been running? 330gal, this tank been running since oct 09, filters been seeded since 2003-2004 [*]What is the name and size of the filter(s)? Quiet one 6000, cascade 1000 [*]How often do you change the water and how much? once a week 65-70% [*]How many fish in the tank and their size? 15? range from 3" to 13" [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? prime [*]What do you feed your fish and how often? pellets, wafers, every other day [*]Any new fish added to the tank? no [*]Any medications added to the tank? no [*]Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt," bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? no [*]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating, etc.? see post
  6. Iv got a 7 year old calico male goldfish. I feed the entire tank every other day. I was just wondering why after eating the next day he just sits in his corner for the entire day looking at the wall? He doesnt float, has spots or anything else. if I put food in the tank he WILL take off right to it. Is he lazy, or is their just a underlying problem that isnt serious enough for me to see? He has got 7 years down, id like to see him live another 7! Heres the old timer Here he is again with his long time friend ( she is a 7yo 13" comet) in their 330gallon home.
  7. I bought grass mats and duckweed mats, not sure if it was from that site or another. But ya it floats. They dug up all the grass, and duckweed mat I put rocks on top so its still sitting down. Everything else floated up and I took out because its to hard to reach over 2' down into my tank and replant it, I cant reach the bottom.
  8. I have hornwort, they constantly eat it. So plants scratched off my list, java moss and hornwort. All I have left is java fern to try.
  9. Well we did notice bleeding from one of the gills to, the 2nd pic I beleive, it seemed to have "black" or very very very dark red clumps on it. Na no need for a new cycle, the main tank is still going strong. I only killed the 20gal qt tank. If I ever need to fire it back up I have a 8gallon filled with floss pads and bio media I can take out and put into the 20gal. Last night I also found my baby calico ryukin dead, lol I didnt get a break last night. But today everyone is doing fine, swimming around enjoying life. Anymore dead fish Im gonna have to give up!
  10. I went to the store, she was fine, came back 1hr later and rip Weighed in at 1lb, a mother and a friend. RIP I poured bleach into the QT to kill everything in it, filter included. 180gallon looks great and will be treating for any internal parasites. My g/f didnt want me to throw her out so shes in the freezer now until the ground thaws to be buried. She did notice that the gills looked kind of odd, any insight to this? best pics I could get with my phone. and the other two of her while she was swimming in the sky
  11. bubbleboy, in the main tank I have a 1500gph pump that lets NOTHING settle onto the sand. I have 17$ left on my vvvv gift card, ILl have to pick up some anti para food today, then feed them until thats gone then go back to regular food. My big oranda is still alive, no further swelling has happened. Id say she looks to be about the same as when I first put her in there. Anti para food for her tonight along with a complete bottom clean and 60% water change.
  12. I dont think my camera can get something that small, I can try tmw, I left home. The small round ones are small like a pin point, id say for looks like a tiny tiny tick? The worms I guess would be yellow/tannish? maybe 1/8-1/4" long. No hairs, none on the sides of her QT tank, just on the floor right now. They wiggle haha I dunno, like a worm would. I beleive vvvv has anti parasite food, Ill have to go tmw. I only have anti bacterial med food on hand. Any idea how long to treat this for? I have noticed on my filters and stuff where were worm like "formations" for a few months I would say. Kinda like tubifix worms.
  13. Upon further inspection, it seems I have tiny bugs and small worm like creatures in the bottom of the Qt tank. I am guessing it came from her poo. The small round bugs are zipping around on the floor, and the small work like creatures are wiggling in the poo and the tank floor... What the heck do I do now?!! I guess I have to start treating the main tank to? 180gallons man thats gonna cost me BIG time isnt it.......
  14. Um fish lets see. 1 large comet, 1 large common pleco, 2 baby fancies, 1 calico fantail, 3 balas, 3 albino tinfoils, 2 pangasius catfish, 1 black moor and a growing fry whos about 3". I think thats it, I dunno to many + the big oranda I have now in qt. Fish were not treated for anything, but a few months ago I did have a problem with this oranda, which turned out to be constipation. She neved had "raised" scales but would sit on the bottom at that time so I fasted her and the tank for 3 days. This is the first time her scales moved so I took the best precaution and just bought the maracyn because I really dont feel like losing a 10"+ oranda I gave the parameters, and its possible she looks clamped because she went from a 180gallon with lots of friends, to a bare bottom tank alone. Looking at her now she is just sitting there.. alone..Still alive though
  15. Filled out the survey. I forget what I dosed, I beleive it was 1/2 a teaspoon for 20gallons. Fins are not clamped or anything. She looks great, eats like a horse. Shes in qt right now so she has no choice but to isolate herself. Shes never been treated for any disease or anything since Iv had her, which it about 2.5-3years ago. Her head was pointed down because she was in there for about 30seconds after I moved her. In the other pics her head is up.
