  1. Nitrates were posted in another thread at 15 but I had copied and pasted from another thread. Nitrates are <5 and Ammonia, Nitrites are 0, PH 7.6. All tank parameters are holding. This is day 5 of the maracyn 2.

I lost Google today. Obituary will be up soon.

Peepers is still bottom sitting but has more energy, he is not pineconing. He has been eatin the metro meds, but still seems like he is gasping a bit.

Also looking for advice on how to get the maracyn 2 out? I am thinking huge wc and add carbon.

The edges of his gills look a bit white.

  2. I put her to sleep. I know in my heart it was the right thing to do. She was pineconed all over and suffering, she was kinked to one side and gasping and sometimes twitching. I think she a little white around her gills and some of the scales on one side were kind of white edges as well. Part of me thinks did I do the right thing. it was so hard to do. You know all these things going through my head but I couldnt watch her suffer.

On bottom, on her side, twitching gasping for air.

This is the end for poor google. She is suffering from dropsy and it is really bad now. I think I am just going to hunt down some clove oil

  4. Well I kind of jumped the gun on things are alright. Something is wrong with both of them. I kind of noticed Google was gulping quite a bit too. They both gulp alot and every now and then they look like they are trying to throw up (thats the only way I can explain it).

I fed them MM and they both got a pellet and that was it they can't get the food down. They just keep struggling to get something out. I cant see anything in either of their mouths.

Is krill usually hard for them to process? I bought the Sallys brand. They looked so big and when I cut them they were hard.

  5. Your concerns are well appreciated, thanks guys!! :)

I just got home from work, picked up some pointy tweezers at the drug store, although I don't think I need them. I picked him up out of the water and he opened his mouth wide and I didnt see anything. Unless it went down further. He seems like he is still gulping but maybe because he doesnt feel good with dropsy.

I got my Metro meds so I think I will feed them soon.

  6. Crissy: I can do that yes. We are working with like a 5mm mouth (it really is tiny). I do have to go into work in an hour for an evening shift and I can try to get some tiny tweezers at the drug store on my way. I guess after this much time it really is coming down to the tweezers, huh?

Edith I was thinking of feeding something else too but not sure. I'll try pointing him down.

  7. I just picked him up gently and he didnt spit it out. I lifted him out for a few seconds a couple of times and he doesnt really open his mouth much. How would I even open his mouth to get the tweezers in there? I would'nt want to squeeze his cheeks. I had a look inside (he has such a tiny mouth) and I can see something in there. He is struggling to get it out.

edit: just tried surfacing him a few more times, he tried to spit it out once but it didn come out. I'll try some more later

  8. Could you test your water parameters to see if it is bacteria bloom? Is this all a new setup? Filters, etc. If it is all new equipment then you wouldnt be ready for a bloom yet. Try the flourite in a seperate tub or spare tank by itself with a filter and see if it is the flourite. Is the tan color of the water match the color of the substrate? Agreed with ashlee18 's post. I think it is just your substrate.

  9. Sorry about not filling in all the required info for this section but I feel it will not help in this situatuion.

I thought I would try some frozen krill for my little guys. I never fed this stuff before and I was quite surprised how big they were, they look like little shrimp with eyes. I cut them up in bite size pieces and fed them. Well it took Google like 10 minutes to chew them down and I am afraid Peepers got one stuck in his mouth. He struggled with it for a couple hours until I went to bed and I figured it would be out by morning. Well 14 hours later and he is still trying to get it out.

He has a really tiny mouth. Any tweezers I have are too big to get in there. Poor little guy is being treated for dropsy at the moment and I feel really bad for him. I hate to pick him up and try to get this thing out. I guess I could get some stress coat and some tiny tweezers from the store maybe.

    :help:

  10. I have an update for the helpers and anyone following :)

Day three of the Maracyn 2 today. Google is still pineconed, a little bit more than the previous picture, but otherwise she is taking it well. She spends a lot of time on the bottom but is active from time to time swimming about the tank.

Peepers is still bottom sitting most of the time but he tries to swim around sometimes. He seems sinky but has more energy than a couple days ago when he could barely swim for food. He is a little pineconed but not much.

Both are still eating and pooping. So far no more floating issues, I have been feeding sparingly.

No ammonia yet and tank parameters are holding.

The spare tub with the other filter is running. I threw in about 20 pellets on day one and they are still sitting on the bottom. Do you think they will create enough ammonia to keep the BBs fed in that filter?

MMs and Jumpstart will arrive Monday and I I should be able to start the MM late in the evening monday. Any tips on MM would be helpful.

When it comes time to remove the Maracyn 2 what should I do? I am thinking large water change and then add carbon. Also after that would it be safe to add back my other filter from the tub?

  11. I am not sure what the rule of thumb is for crushed coral. I think it would depend on how fine the coral is crushed, gph of filter and water parameters to begin with. For my ph problems it was trial and error until I finally found something that worked. I now use Nutrifin PH Stabalizer to get my 7.0 tap to 7.6 before a wc and I maintain the ph during the week with crushed coral. I use about 1.5 cups of coral per 27 gallons. I did a lot of bucket testing to figure it out what worked. I hear many members use Buff it UP.

  12. I just used a tub that was never used for anything but these guys before, and I cleaned it out with hot water. I used on of the existing filters in the tub. In the tank I am going to hold off on the ammonia remover atm as I only have one established biomax in there, I just replaced my old crushed coral slot with a new one but I have to keep that in there.

I just did a 100% wc added the maracyn 2. I fed them a few pellets as they havent had anything but veggies and fasting for 4-5 days. I had to basically hand feed Peepers because he doesnt seem to have the will to search for it.

Will keep monitoring tank params and hope for the best.

    Thanks :)

  13. Thanks guys :)

Got the Marcyn 2 and ammonia remover. Should I add the ammonia remover right away? Or just wait for ammonia to appear? The old filter I have to run with the biomax in a tub was used with koi 3 months ago and one of them had an ulcer. Should I just use one of my existing filters? Also can I feed my cycle in the tub with fish food?

  14. Aeration shouldnt be a problem. I hate to cut the filtration to 200 gph by losing a filter but maybe taht will be okay since we are working with a 27 gallon. I do have a couple old filters so I can put some of my biomax in that so that I still have 400gph. I'll check the zeolite cause I am on my way to the lfs. Is zeo the one with half carbon? I know ac makes a ammonia remover but I hear that starves the cycle, if I am going to lose the cycle than I guess it doesnt matter. Okay i am just talking out loud but I think we solved the issue with the cycle with running one in a tub :)

  15. I am starting Marcyn 2 today. These guys are not coming off the bottom at all. I may be possibly 5 days until the MM come, I've waited on meds before and lost a fish and I am not doing that again. I dont care about the BB I willc ycle again if I have to, I would rather lose the cycle than the fish. 100% wc is going to be done before Marcyn 2 as salt makes it ineffective.

Thanks guys for all your help :) Do you think raising the temp is still needed? Is this to help.... with the fluid buildup?

  16. I just ordered the MM and Jumpstart. It is looking like Monday or Tuesday for delivery. I am scared as to what state my guys will be in then.

No improvement. Both fish on the bottom and Google is pineconing(a little more prenounced now).

I am confused, if they are constipated I should be fasting? Or if it is dropsy should they get some sort of food? Also should I just start maracyn 2 now instead of waiting for the MM?

  17. Ok they both got half a pea with the epsom. It took Peepers so long to get his it may have dissolved before he got it. Google got the bigger of the grains and sucked it up pretty quick. I added a cheap uv sterilizer 30 days ago, it is made of plastic. I removed it for the prazi during last water change. Filters were totally cleaned two days ago. I just didnt get into the propellers, but they are usually pretty clean.

I am about to add sponges to the filter intakes as Peepers got his tail stuck in an intake

  18. Here is the pineconing:

    HPIM1967.jpg

Kind of hard to tell but I think you can.

I'll try the pea/epsom trick. Peepers has such a small mouth that I am scared he wont get the pea down and it will get stuck in his mouth. I guess it is more important for Google to get it anyway, she is a vacum.

No poop that I noticed recently. Still eating.

I'll pm a mod later tonight after work if no one has replied because I am off in an hour for work and won't have time for any treatment, except for the pea trick.

  19. No improvement today. Still both spending most time on the bottom. And Google still pineconed. I am trying to get a hold of Fish Sempai for their Metromed and Jumpstart combo to see how long it would take to have shipped. Hopefully I can get it fast.

If I am going to seperate Google with epsom should I continue the Prazi treatment in that tank? I don't have enough prazi to treat two tanks. The current tank has 0.1 % salt and prazi in it now. Should I do a 100% change and add epsom and add the prazi back in that tank instead? I added the prazi two days ago so I am ready for the next dose in one more day. Afetr that I may not have quite enough for a full other dose. Prazi is 4-6 business days away.

    Hoping for a mod soon

  20. Since you've caught it early I would suggest moving Google to a 10 gallon rubbermaid quarantine tank. Perhaps what you used for your koi rescue? Then ad 1/8 teaspoons of epsom salt per 10 gallons. That should help clear him out. I wonder what the heck is going on.

Caught what early ? Constipation or dropsy?
