  1. You wanted to add one fish right? If so that filter should be fine for now, especially if your goldy is small. Just dont stock the tank to its max. Add the other filter when you can, when the fish gets bigger and the filter can't keep up. Try to extend the filter intake to the bottom of the tank for proper circulation.
  2. I've been reading some of the other posts by you and I can't hold it in any longer. BUY THE FISH You have been given lots of good advice so far and I think you will make a great goldfish owner .
  3. Its really to bad they don't have the ability to care for them when they get sick. If they have been keeping them since the 70s you would think they would have experience treating them. I am surprised as well they don't have someone who can treat them when needed. Too bad you couldn't take that koi. I don't know the minimum requirements to quarantine a koi. Koi from what I know live about 60 years it would be a shame for this koi to be put down for such a treatable condition.
  4. Peepers is doing much better. He seems himself the last couple of days. He does bottom sit from time to time but with work I am away most of the day so I don't see much of what he does then. I am only keeping lights on for 2-3 hours a day still since he is still recovering. When they are on he is active.
  5. Hopefully you find someone to care for the koi. It was very good of you to take the initiative to look out for this fish Fin rot could be caused by poor water quality or improper diet. Maybe they should have the water tested to make sure everything is okay there or they might lose them all. It is in my opinion that if you are keeping koi and don't have the knowledge or facilities to care for these fish if they get sick then you shouldnt have them at all. Not too get all self righteous but just my opinion. How long have they been keeping koi?
  6. I would say that filter would have to much power for your 20 gallon. From what I remember that filter has two outflows and is quite wide. I don't think your babies would have a place to rest. You would be better off with a smaller filter for now as you said.
  7. Hey Sarah, it's okay about Google things are getting better. I bought the freezer frozen krill. They were quite large with little eyeballs, I would say about a quarter to a half an inch for just one. I thawed and cut them up thinking they would be okay. I am so scared to feed them now. I was thinking of blending them up in my mini food processer and adding to gell food.
  8. Hands down Penguins are better than Wisper ex in terms of quality and maintence. My Penguin worked well for me but the biowheel drove me nuts. It would stop spinning altogether quite often, I was constantly fiddling with it. It is a rather noisy filter in my opinion as well, you can hear the constant trickling of water all the time. I switched to Aqua Clear last year and I will never go back. There has been many debates on these filters here before both with great points from all sides. If its on sale I would say buy it, try it out, see what you think. You might get hooked on them like many others.
  9. I keep going over in my head what if she would have ate, what if I gave her more of a chance, could she have been saved? When fish are pineconed for 6 days its usually hard to recover from dropsy right? I am sorry to ask these questions but it has been driving me nuts. I get so darn attached to these little buggers.
  10. I did a 80% wc today and added carbon to the filter. He is doing much better Swimming around, eating his MM, and swims up to me when I come to the tank He is missing Google being in his tank all alone He has a little raged fin, must be where he caught it in the filter intake, looks like a little white stringy thing coming off it. Thinking of starting melafix or pimafix. Should I wait on that until I am sure the maracyn is out? I think it's alright.
  11. They were on marcyn 2. Sounds more like they were dropsying. Google died of it, but peepers is starting to make a recovery. Thanks for checking in with me
  12. Thank you all It is so nice to hear your words Only the Koko nuts know what I am going through, well my wife as well. It's kind of hard to tell people at work that you are upset because you had to put a goldfish to sleep. But you all are so kind, Thanks again And I am happy to hear Google was a favorite
  13. Maracyn is coming out tomorrow. He is actually swimming around a bit. I seen him swim to the surface, something he hasent done for at least 5 days. The MM might be starting to work along with the marcyn. Google was pineconed before the marcyn even started.
  14. The gill plates arent that white on the edges just a little bit. The gills don't appear to be much pale. They are not bright red or anything but are pinkish. No other air pump 45 minutes till I leave for work. I checked my fish box and I can't find anymore air pumps.
  15. Yes it is an antibiotic. Dosage is for 5 days, I just added last dose. It is the outside cover of gills. Yeah he just ate some MM, seems to be gasping quite a bit now, swimming around. The lights are out on the tank, I just turn them on for feeding. Two bubblers going rated for 10-30gal each. Thanks
  16. Nitrates were posted in another thread at 15 but I had copied and pasted from another thread. Nitrates are <5 and Ammonia, Nitrites are 0, PH 7.6. All tank parameters are holding. This is day 5 of the maracyn 2. I lost Google today. Obituary will be up soon. Peepers is still bottom sitting but has more energy, he is not pineconing. He has been eatin the metro meds, but still seems like he is gasping a bit. Also looking for advice on how to get the maracyn 2 out? I am thinking huge wc and add carbon. The edges of his gills look a bit white.
  17. Thanks for all your kind words I am feeling a bit better now. I will post an obituary later on and update Peepers status later as well, he is doing well, eating the MM. Google was two years old, I had her since December 2008
  18. I put her to sleep. I know in my heart it was the right thing to do. She was pineconed all over and suffering, she was kinked to one side and gasping and sometimes twitching. I think she a little white around her gills and some of the scales on one side were kind of white edges as well. Part of me thinks did I do the right thing. it was so hard to do. You know all these things going through my head but I couldnt watch her suffer.

On bottom, on her side, twitching gasping for air. This is the end for poor google. She is suffering from dropsy and it is really bad now. I think I am just going to hunt down some clove oil
  20. Well I kind of jumped the gun on things are alright. Something is wrong with both of them. I kind of noticed Google was gulping quite a bit too. They both gulp alot and every now and then they look like they are trying to throw up (thats the only way I can explain it). I fed them MM and they both got a pellet and that was it they can't get the food down. They just keep struggling to get something out. I cant see anything in either of their mouths. Is krill usually hard for them to process? I bought the Sallys brand. They looked so big and when I cut them they were hard.
  21. Your concerns are well appreciated, thanks guys!! I just got home from work, picked up some pointy tweezers at the drug store, although I don't think I need them. I picked him up out of the water and he opened his mouth wide and I didnt see anything. Unless it went down further. He seems like he is still gulping but maybe because he doesnt feel good with dropsy. I got my Metro meds so I think I will feed them soon.
  22. Crissy: I can do that yes. We are working with like a 5mm mouth (it really is tiny). I do have to go into work in an hour for an evening shift and I can try to get some tiny tweezers at the drug store on my way. I guess after this much time it really is coming down to the tweezers, huh? Edith I was thinking of feeding something else too but not sure. I'll try pointing him down.
  23. I just picked him up gently and he didnt spit it out. I lifted him out for a few seconds a couple of times and he doesnt really open his mouth much. How would I even open his mouth to get the tweezers in there? I would'nt want to squeeze his cheeks. I had a look inside (he has such a tiny mouth) and I can see something in there. He is struggling to get it out. edit: just tried surfacing him a few more times, he tried to spit it out once but it didn come out. I'll try some more later
  24. Could you test your water parameters to see if it is bacteria bloom? Is this all a new setup? Filters, etc. If it is all new equipment then you wouldnt be ready for a bloom yet. Try the flourite in a seperate tub or spare tank by itself with a filter and see if it is the flourite. Is the tan color of the water match the color of the substrate? Agreed with ashlee18 's post. I think it is just your substrate.
