  1. Hi everyone, In May I posted really bad news about losing 10 of our Koi in our outdoor pond. We lost Velvet a month later after doing all we could. We broke down the pond in May, and bleach bathed it. Filled it back up and tested the water out with 3 commons. They did good so a few weeks later we bought a few small Koi. Last week California had a pretty good earthquake. A few stones moved in the pond and 2 days later we see 7 new fish! They all have deep color and are about 2-3 inches. Three of them are always out now swimming with the rest, the smaller ones come out once in a while but mostly hide. Today I found 3 fry, so so tiny looks like they just hatched a few weeks ago. How could this be? We only had 2 mature fish left after our ordeal. They were in seperate tubs while being treated and the pond was getting redone. The 7 are really a good size and look over 3 months old. 2 of them are black. I know the books say you can not tell the parents by looking at the babies but Velvet was a special breed of Koi and our only black fish. The nice thing is our pond is joyful again. I put the 3 fry in my tank to give them a better chance. I guess God takith, and God givith. I'll post picks when I can. Hope your all having a nice summer.
  2. how many fish are in the pond? Maybe you had a baby!
  3. thanks for your help. I just did another water change, even tho I did one last night. To look at her now you would think she is dead. She is floating at the top on her side. Then your see she is slowing breathing. I don't know if a fish can turn things around at this point or if I should stop her suffering. She was just called an ornamental goldfish. She is small. her body is 1 1/2 to 2 " long with another 1/2 inch tail. Her coloring is beautiful. White body with orange and black markings. Her awesome tail is all orange and the edges are black. She is in my office with me and took no time at all to see me and wiggle to the glass. She learned when I tapped on the glass it was time to eat, and came running like a puppy. Should I stop this now? or let her go on her own
  4. no I can't post a pick, I just thought she was gone but there is a spec of life in her, any ideas quick
  5. Ammonia Level? 0 Nitrite Level? don't know Nitrate level? don't know Ph Level, (If possible,KH and GH and chloramines)? don't know Ph Level (KH/GH) out of the Tap? don't know Brand of test-kit used? (strips or drops?) Ammonia I use the drop kit by API for the rest I use strips so I don't know the exact levels your asking but all fell into the safe area. I also brought the water to be tested at the pet store and they said the water was good, but I do not know what kind of drop kit they used. [*]Tank size (How many Gals) and How long has it been running? 10 gal over a year [*]What is the name and size of the filter/s? I think it's Aqua Clear and like I said above it is for a 15- 20 gal tank and I hav a 10 [*]How often do you change the water and how much? Since she has been with me for a month I changed 25-35 % one time until last night when I changes 75% [*]How many fish in the tank and their size? only her [*]What kind of water additives or conditioners? last night I used Tetra Aqua Safe [*]Any medications added to the tank? No [*]Add any new fish to the tank?No [*]What do you feed your fish? tetra fin flakes [*]Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt", No bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus? No [*]Any unusual behavior like staying at the bottom, not eating,ect..? No she ate yesterday morning even tho she was moving slow
  6. I bought a new beautiful tiny gold fish about a month ago and she is in a 10 gal tank. I have 2 air stones in it and a 20 gal tank size filter system. All water test are perfect. She has been healthy and active until the last 2 days. She acts like she has no energy and can't swim. She keeps floating up but not gasping for air. She looks like she is suffering and dyeing right in front of me. Last night I did a water change but she looks worse today. WHAT COULD BE HAPPENING? HELP
  7. thank you all for your help. I lost more fish. Since now we were down to 4 I got rubbermaid tubs for them all and was treating seperatly. We emptied the pond, washed it in bleach, cleaned it all out and started fresh. My healthy aggie and largest Koi left died in the tub. Don't know why she looked so healthy. Velvet has been in a tub for over a month now but is responding to her treatments. She has a small hole near her gill that we are waiting to heal. My beautiful telescope that I healed from a turtle attack and is in the pic to the left passed away. She seemed to be doing so well in the tank I set up for her but then just took a turn for the worst. I let her spend her last day back in the pond she loved and then she passed. I hope the worst of this is over. We have no idea what to do if it's not. Thanks again
  8. another thing, we have done 3 salt and 3 water change cycles, do you suggest more and how many?
  9. thank you all. I will check out the pet store for the med food Trinket- thanks so much. Sorry I didn't get the e-mail responce alert you posted. Wonder why that is? Anyway I hope I can find this in a store so I can start NOW instaed of waiting for it on line. I really want to find what I can add to gel food. The fish are not really coming up to eat yet, just taking what happens to sink down. That's normal We are supposed to get cooler weather again so I need the food to sink. The store told me to only use the prazipro once as directed. That was almost a month ago and some gone fish ago too. Sould I do it again?
  10. what an ordeal, Poor Luc and you. I have no advise sorry but I am loosing many of my Koi to Mouth rot and have boaught many meds and treatments with no success. Where did you find the gel food with the penicilin in it? I make my own gel food, is there something like that I could buy with out a script for to add? I'll keep a good thought for your fish. The pics look like he's getting better. I hope the scratching is from the healing

oh, my poor friend Shamu, I'm so sorry your going through this. I know your miss him, but remember what a good fish Mommy you have been. I think fish can feel our love and he felt yours. My thoughts are with you.
  12. HIDE THE FOOD, and test the water after the leave to make sure no one added cocktails, good luck
  13. I'm so sorry , I'm going through the same thing now. I understand how you feel. I think maybe I should fill my pond with turtles
  14. I'm losing my pond Koi one at a time. I've been reading here and am sure I lost 3 to Columnaris. We first were told we had fin rot and ulcers treated with melefix. Lost another fish and then treated with the POND melefix. Was told we had Flukes after we lost a fish to dropsy that was checked under a scope. Treated the pond 1500 gal with PraziPro. Lost another fish. Treating with salt now. Partial water changes every 3rd day. We have done 2 salt treatments thus far. Only have 5 of 12 fish left and one has a really bad case of mounth rot. She looks bad. And this morning one of the babies I found last spring and raised in a tank till ready for the pond has died. I do not have a place to put 5 of them and who would I choose? One has a small white ulcer I think but it seems the salt is helping. It looks white because he is a jet black Koi. I have a 10 gal tank I used when my telescope goldfish needed to mend from a turtle attack. (turtle is long gone) She was hiding alot and I put her into the tank when I was told about the dropsy fish. The telescope seems to be doing fine now and the SBD (i think from the flukes) is just about gone) She is still in the tank and on medi gold. I have 2 of the babies left so I added the one I was able to catch to the 10 gal tank with the telescope tonight. She seems alert but she has a good sized red streak in her tail. Could this be her developing her color? By the way each time I go for meds I have the water tested and they say it's good. I go to a specialty Koi pet store. I have been to upset to post obits for my beautiful fish. I am to afraid to even go out to the pond to look. Hubbie goes for me, and then when I go out and see someone missing he tells me. Eating habits are low because of hibernation. At this time they don't come up for food. We crush the pellets so the pieces fall down to the bottom and then I see them eat. We have just started feed once a week since the weather is starting to warm up. Is this it? Will I loose them all? I've been told this is just they way it is, fish don't really live that long. The one with the mouth rot is our oldest 2 1/2 years. Is my pond just a death bath now? Is it ok I put the babby in with my Telescope? or will it get the Telescope sick? No new fish were added, nothing was different when this all started. I forgot what kind of filter we have but have been told by many it is good and large enough. The only unusual thing I noticed was some really big thick poos, but I have no idea who did them. I did have 2 that were about 8-10" long so it might have been theres even tho i never saw that before. I thought it might have been from the fluke treatment. This is horrible.
  15. We all know how you feel. I think you got some good advise here, take the break you need your know when your ready if at all again. But I think you will come back to it again someday, which is why I agree to hold on to the tank. Just wrap everything up and put it in the garage or basement. Can't hurt, if you decide you want to go again your save a lot of $. and if years pass and your done you can sell them in a yard sale. I'm going through the same thing now with my pond, losing fish after fish. Running back & forth for meds and treatments and not seeing any results, just another getting sick and dyeing. It's heart breaking. If I loose them all hubby said we should get frogs but I dont think the dogs will like that idea. Maybe turtles
