Feeding peas once or twice a week is always a good idea. Buy frozen unsalted peas, and microwave a few in a little water for just a few seconds. Then "shell" the peas (i.e. pop them out of their skins), smush and feed. Peas are a great goldfish laxative and help them purge.

Besides peas, there are lots of fruits and veggies that goldfish love. Mine like lightly blanched zucchini, spinach leaves on a food clip, and orange slices (oranges are messy! Best to give right before a water change).

I give frozen (thawed) bloodworms or brine shrimp about once a week, for added protein and because it makes the goldies go nuts. They also get a taste if I'm having seafood (they love cocktail shrimp, Dungeness crab, and Dover sole). If I'm mixing up tuna for myself, I sometimes give them a little piece before I add anything to it.

give them some peas with some carotine food suppliments and the most important give them rich protein food this will help the wen growth.the best food for a goldfish oranda is "hikari oranda or hikari lionhead" both enhance the colour + the wen growth :bingo:

Lemon or lime? Really? Just last night I was looking at that extra lime in my refrigerator and wondering if I could feed it to my piggies. I'm going to try it.

I do sometimes feed mine bits of orange or grapefruit, and I've never had any problems.

I agree! I am actually "allergic" to most fruit but I have figured out that some of the problem is the pesticides used because I do not have the same problem with organic fruits.

I just gave my goldies brocolli for the first time a few weeks ago and they went crazy!! Like they immediately knew what it was and chowed down. It was frozen and thawed--but they only ate the little flowers. They tried to eat the stalk but spit it out--too hard to chew I guess. :)

Yes, it made one of my fish so gassy, she had to spend the night in the breeder box, belly up. The others were fine, but this particular fish had severe problems. I am not feeding broccoli at all anymore because of that.

Omg. This thread makes me realize I am way too chicken when it comes to what I feed my fish. I never stray from gel, pellets, spinach, cucumbers, zucchini, and orange/lime. Lol
